Way marked your stuck with Cannock, just places to ride & explore you have the Clent hill, Lickey hill, Stourbridge environ's & Wyre forest off-hand.

Plus there a fairly good bridlway network & canal system all over the midlands (& in brum), that might not be very exciting but can be used to get some riding in or to connect the good stuff.

Theres some Bridleways that lead in / out of Hopwas Woods between Lichfield & Tamworth. Not spent a lot of time in there, but there are some trails in the woods. I always get lost though. Place is like the bloody twilight zone. Bridleways were all but unpassable a few weeks ago though, due to the rain & being overgrown.

There are some "trails" in Sutton Park, & I think theres even a group that rides there in the evening; but you've got to be a bit open minded. Given its location its not exactly going to rival Whistler. 🙂

If youve not looked, there is a lot more to Cannock than the FtD & Monkey you know...

[Hasty Edit: open minded as in what trails to expect, not due to the sexual activities of said group]

I usually ride at Sutton Park at least twice a week, under normal circumstances I would be happy to show you around but I can't at the moment. It's fun but relatively flat, there are a few fun DHish sections and some jumps. Its not really worth travelling far for but if you local it's worth it if you go with a few mates. Its only 5 mins ride from my house which is why I'm there so often.

Wyre forest is where you need to be . . .

We normally ride over there on Sundays, not sure if it's a happening this weekend or not, because we're off to Cannock tomorrow to do some natural stuff . . . i'd guide myself but i go around with my eyes shut and let the more knowledgble amongst us point me in the right direction . . . i'll drop you a mail if you like?

There's also the Long Mynd which is a bit of a drive but not as far as tracking right into Whales.

Lickey hills (mostly cheeky) Waseley Hills (very cheeky) Clent (cheeky enough) are the good areas in the North Worcestershire Alps (NWAlps), u can get train from Brum to Barnt Green too, London Midland take bikes without charge then all the above areas are within reach

Plenty of groups ride the Wyre so pretty easy to tag along whenever it suits you (we usually do Weds nights). As above there are a few groups who ride the daytime at the weekend.

Lickeys has plenty of riding but it's a pretty small area so lots of criss-crossing trails (and lots of walkers/dogs/horses to look out for).

Clent is good (although i'm not a massive fan myself) but is very up and down with not too many flowy sections.

Best choice locally (imho) is the Wyre where you can comfortably do a 20 mile ride on mostly singletrack without riding the same bit of trail twice. I love it but it does get very muddy although it's not too bad at the moment (except the bit of trail on the far side that was nice and is now an unrideable two meter chasm at the bottom of a quick descent).
