Anyone use these? Got full-length cable run on the Patriot which makes it a pain to clean and lube the cables.

used to in the 80/90's when no one ran full outers, do a decent job. i don't think i've ever lubed a full outer though, there never seems to be a problam with water incress (i don't you front mechs though)

Just gone to full outers on my bike for the first time and now running without them, but when I had three separate outers I used them, one in each piece, certainly a great way to flush out the crap. On balance I rate them.
Not sure if I'll end up putting them in the continuous run, time will tell.

Had them, dumped them. Found they created an entry point for crap and caused more cleaning than without. Did make replacing the last piece of outer easy (oiler to mech) without having to redo the whole lot on full length.

The one on the Patriot has gummed up now, but to be fair it's been on there for 7 years 🙂

I have them on my bike, they make sense, no issues with them.

It wasn't my main mtb for most of that though to be fair. However I've never replaced cables every 7 weeks, that's nuts. What are you doing to them? They only need wiping and oiling.. they only need replacing if they fray or go rusty.

Modern Teflon coated cables shouldn't be greased/oiled at all, they're designed to run dry...?

I had them and got rid. On my commuter mtb I changed to full length outers neatly cable tied to the cable mounts. Work much better and haven't needed touching for over a year of daily riding in all conditions.
They worked OK but you need to consider where you put them. they don't really like being on a bend and avoid putting them directly above the brakes as any over spray drips down onto them.
I wouldn't bother with them again.

Hmmmmm.. course what I really want is Ride On full length cables, but I don't think you can get them any more... Fortunately I still had a set I fitted to my Salsa.

Perhaps I'll just get some XTR but really - it'll be a shame to ditch good cables that just need a wipe and lube.. I tihink threading the used outer through the inner will cause problems.

Thanks for the offer Junkyard, looks like they may not be ideal since no-one likes to use them any more.

Jagwire Elite Sealed cables have a full liner just like the Gore ones. They seem pretty good. Transfil also do some sealed ones, but I found they were crap compared to Gore. Jagwires are pretty much a like for like replacement.

Jagwire are £50 though.. anyone know where I can buy a set of XTR teflon coated jobs with a single long length of outer?

I use them on one continuous outer.

Works a treat, I don't suffer from any crap making its way in through the oiler either.

to those that run full length outers - how do you stop the rear mech cable from slipping down so there's a massive loop by the rear mech? Have tried small O rings on the cable outer by the guides, zip ties etc to no effect.

Stevet1 - I have a wrap or 2 of plumber's self-amalgamating tape wrapped round the outer where it's gripped pretty well by a zip-tie holding the outer to the cable clip/holder. Useful tape, also makes a good anti-scuff tube for the cables where they rub the frame.

Best use i found for a cable oiler was when i didn't have a long enough bit of outer in the spares box... used the oiler to join 2 short bits, hey presto, long enough cable!
