You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
A bike I’m considering describes the rear hub as “Novatec, 12x148mm Boost” (I can’t find any further details about it). I’d like to switch the group set with Shimano so need a Microspline freehub. My initial searches suggest Novatec don’t make any Microspline freehubs, though all their websites are confusing and rubbish. Anyone know anything different before I start figuring out the exact hub model number? It seems odd that such a large manufacturer of OEM wouldn’t have adopted Microspline yet.
It’s to do with Shimano licensing.
1st Jan many more options will be available.
That makes sense - hence Hunt having their MS wheels available from January. Thanks. I’ll have to sit tight until then…
Why would you immediately want to swap to shimano?
I suspected this question would come. This is so I can buy the lesser model and put the SRAM NX onto my hard tail winter bike which is very worn out. And rightly or wrongly I’m a Shimano man so I’d like that on my main bike.
I emailed jtek about shiftmates for running a combination i couldnt find on their website.
Apparently the 12s is so close as to work together just fine. So you could just stick a shimano shifter on the new bike (or mech, whatever your favourite bit is).
Its what i intend to do with my scandal.
Id originally intended to sell the gx bits and buy xt as the prices looked close enough, but this way is less faff and nets me a useable spare wheelset for myd tyree once i sort the upgraded hope one out with an xt cassette.
Novatec freehubs can be surprisingly hard to track down and expensive when you do.
Some people report that Nukeproof and Hunt freehubs work on some wheels (they use Novatec hubs), and they are cheaper. But this is by no means universal and possibly a bit trial-and-error.
Can you move the wheels over along with the groupset? Sell the wheels and treat yourself to a new set?
I had some Novatec D642 rear hubbed wheels but the freehubs were giving me trouble so I've replaced them with Hope, FWIW.

Martin is a Novatec dealer or importer and should be able to give you some information or even supply the part.

My HT is 27.5 and the new one 29 so that's a no go. It'll probably be I spend a bit of time sourcing a freehub otherwise bite the bullet and get another set of wheels and sell the Novatec ones.
The bike in question is a Norco Optic C3. I could just get the C2 which has DT Swiss hubs, GX, an upgraded fork (and I'd probably end up being entirely content with the SRAM) but I'm just not into the neon yellow paint. What a silly predicament.

/blockquote>will do, thanks.
The novatec hub on that bike is a D462SB with a steel freehub so is exactly the same as the rebranded hunt wheels so it would be worth checking there in January for the ms hub option to fit.
The next model up does look worth the extra money, but you can't buy a colour you don't like.
Flog the wheels and buy a nice pair of hope/DT Swiss or whatever.
They look like great bikes btw
We're well into 2020 now and I can't find any sign of Novatec micro spline freehubs for older hubs. (FH type B2 in my case). Anyone else?
Incidentally, if you need any other type of Novatec freehub Hunt's prices are pretty reasonable https://www.huntbikewheels.com/collections/spares/products/replacement-freehub-for-all-hunt-wheelsets?variant=12269698416717
Nothing listed on Novatec's website for B2 (or any other type)

Novatec were really helpful a couple of years ago when I contacted them via that website (not about microspline hubs, obvs)
Good idea. I mailed the EU people. Here's the disappointing reply:
Microspline is ordered and should be in our EU-stock in Jun-July.
But Microspline will just for this hub : DH82SB, D162SB, D202SB, D462SB, D332SB, D902SB.
Novatech's long term support of hubs is pretty non existent, once a hub is out of production that's that.
