I'm looking for a new rear tyre I usually run a magic Mary in winter/spring but swap over to a hans dampf for summer all with super gravity casing. My latest hans dampf has been on there for a month or 2 and has lost a lot of side knobs, whilst this is fun on a lot of tracks it's becoming a bit of a pig on the steeper off cambered stuff.

Have seen the Michelins going pretty cheap anyone used them what are they like?

I run them.

I'll be putting another pair on. They're not light n are quiet craggy, however they are mint in loose n loam.

I got fed up of ripping side knobs of schwalbes.

I run them on both my bikes - great tyres.

Where has them cheap?

I also have them on one of my bikes, currently have Minions on the other bike.

As above great in the loose & loamy, I prefer the minions in dryer, Rockier environments.

For me the Front tyre is the stand out performer, the rear is decent. Id say so far decent wear rates.

Not a great fan, don’t like the square profile on them compared to a 2.4 DHR.

Just didn’t really find them that good in any environment. I’d rather pay more for a Maxxis.

I guess if you only want to spend ~£30 on a tyre they arnt that bad.

Depends on pressure, bike, trail etc I found the DHRII to be not as good.

Love them. Replaced a ripped dhr on the front of mine and was a massive confidence booster. Much more grip in all conditions. The dhr on the rear will be replaced with one when it’s gives up. Front dhr was only 3 rides old when I ripped it. Usually run magic Mary combo and rock razor but will stick with Michelin’s as they feel indestructible.

Edit... where are they cheap?

Good to hear that people like them I'm not too worried about being draggy my local riding is mainly a fire road grind to nice steep rooty/rocky affair.

Whats the sidewall strength like,im both fat and terrible at riding so I appreciate a good strong tyre.

I had seen them very cheap on a French webpage but they have all gone. But crc has them for £35 which is OK.

Better than an EXO Maxxis, not as tough as a DD or DH casing.

Sidewalls are fragile given the weight for me.

Running a 2.8 Michelin on the front, very good grip, and seems sturdy enough.

I've got a 2.5 Vittoria Jafaki on the back (recently only £9 from PX) extremely impressed by the grip, it's tubeless ready, went up with a trackpump, and it's akin to a DD casing.

Got a new bike a few month ago (nukeproof mega) and it was supplied with these front and rear. Had maxxis on my old stumpy and was going to get a set for the mega but have been impressed with the enduro's so much i think I'll get them again when i need new tyres.

(Disclaimer: because of the weather i have only used these in the dry and have still to find out how they are in the wet)

Never got on with them myself - I’ve never had a tyre feel like it’s got so much grip then suddenly break away with no warning. They also had a funny feeling over roots that I can only describe as being a bit like driving a car with lots of negative camber on the front suspension on a bumpy road.

However, some good riders I know absolutely love them. Magazine tests have also been love/hate, so I can only think that they work better on narrower rims (under 30mms) and are too square and unpredictable on wider rims.

I run Assegais now and find them so much better everywhere.

Got 2.4 Wild Enduro Gum-X Front and rear. Just "because". I've pretty much always used Maxxis and fancied a bit of change. They're "weird" as they use the slightly harder compound (Magi-X) as the top race tyre claiming that it performs better the faster you go...so, Gum-X for me then (the softer version for humans)

The front is good, grippy, predictable, has lasted well, it's not too picky about pressure (I'm looking at you, Mr Specialised Butcher), and OK at shedding mud, it's on a 30mm internal Roval, and comes up roundly square-ish...if that any sense. I like it, you do need to weight it, but throw it into stuff with confidence and it will hold on. Nice tyre. Bit porky though, and makes itself felt after a bit.

The rear though is already showing signs of reasonably heavy wear, the side knobs are broken in a few places and as the centre knobs are a bit lower, after the recent warm and rain free spring, there's a noticeable lack of braking traction. I do have some pretty steep DH runs though and to be fair, pretty much all rears break away eventually, so I should be too harsh I guess. heavier than the DHR II it replaced, but if anything, runs a bit faster (lower tread)

Pleasantly surprised as they're cheaper than equivalent Maxxis, but I've not had that many wet rides with them, so Jury's still out. I'd buy them again, as they've been pretty much fit and forget, but I don't think the hype about them is worth it. Better than average for sure, but not going to be; "OMG best tyre eva"...

I run the Wild Enduro front, but decided to try something a little lighter and less draggy on the rear. I'm usnig the Michelin Force AM comp and have found it really good so far. Only 770g so much lighter. Of course it probably means more prone to punctures, but I'm light on tyres and I feel a lot of the "Enduro" tyres are well OTT for where I live.

I think this is standard practice for tyre manufacturers. You need an enigma machine to pick a pair of Maxxis these days.

And yes, I've got the Wild Enduro tyres on 25mm rims. They definitely have a square edge which is probably much more pronounced on wide rims.

I like them. I used them for 3 weeks in the Alps last year in all weathers from slop to dust. The sidewalls are much tougher than the Specialized I was using. They don't deform as much when you're bashing them.

They're medium heavy, medium rolling resistance, medium price. Probably would buy again.

How do these compare on the front to a magic Mary? Normally run the soft version as my go to tyre for off piste, loamy, mud type terrain. Have been thinking of trying these given some reviews

Timely thread, was thinking of trying one of these, but if they're square at 25, they'll be worse on 30, I'll stick to the big Mary.

Was gonna take it off for summer but the local traold are so dry they've broken down into dust, and the Mary bite is required!.

Well, since my front Exo DHF os hanging on it's threads and I can't kill my rear DD Aggressor (but I hate it) I decided to spend sometime searching about Michelin range and I think I'm now convinced that my next tyres will be a set of Wild Enduros. They seem to have a casing somewhere in between Exo+ and DD which is what I mostly need, performance seems to be good and the price is surprisingly reasonable. Also not crazy heavy.

I can only compare to a Shorty or a Hillbilly. Not as good in actual mud but better everywhere else.

I’ve been on a set for a few months now.  2.4s seem a lot bigger than the Maxxis 2.35s they replaced and the side knobs are huge (give the bike an MX look).  Not found them too draggy and very impressed with the front end grip in what has mostly been very dry weather.

Good to hear that, I'm fully convinced to try them.

My opinion my current front Exo DHF 29x2.5 can be best described as "meh". The Eco casing is made of cheese, even with a Rimpact insert and the cornering behaviour is kind of weird sometimes. Interestingly, the thread seemed to work better on the 2.3 width I used to have, more predictable.
Don't get me started on the rear Aggressor 29x2.5. I could understand that tyre if it rolled much faster than say a DHRII, even with all the other minus it would have a clear use case. But it doesn't, and sucks at everything else for someone riding natural trails. It sucks at climbing, it sucks at braking, corners ok. The only great thing about it is the DD casing which together with the Rimpact is fairly reliable

For those suggesting the Force tyre as a lighter option for the rear, the Wild AM is a better choice!

I've got a Gum-X Wild Enduro front (the Gum-X has softer side lugs than the Magi-X) waiting to go on in place of a soft Magic Mary. I also run a DHF Exo 3C on my other bike, so I'm looking forward to comparing performance of arguably three out of the five (DHR 2 & Assegai) best front tyres commonly available in the UK.

Would like to try a Vittoria Moto at some point.

First ride on my Wild Enduro front and rear combo today.

Usually run DHR front and rear but (deep breath) one 29er DHR II 3C Max Terra WT was the same price as both front and rear Wild Enduros

Very surprised at how well they roll. Was expecting Maxxis Super Tacky levels of resistance but they were fine.

Ridiculous grip on the way down. To the point where I was actively aiming for off camber roots because there was so much grip.

Thread Resurrection:

Just gone back to Maxxis, as they've both started to loose air (not at the same time) the rear was losing a lot overnight, and although I couldn't find any issues, with taping, valve or the tyre itself, I've bunged a part worn DHR on and it's stayed up just fine..The WE is after a few hundred miles of Calderdale grit stone, looking very second hand though. Same with the front, last week or so, started, like the rear to loose pressure overnight. bunged on a DHF and  is fine again. leaking through worn out sidewalls? Seems unlikely, but I can't think of anything else...

So, don't know if it's just "one of those things" or the pixies letting air out overnight, but I can't be doing with tyres that won't stay up.

Damn, I've only just put a set on, had one ride and was thinking they are great. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't last the longest as they do seem rather soft and grippy but I really hope I don't have deflation issues before they've done a fair innings

RB, I have to say, I had no issues with them while I used them, the rocks are pretty gritty here and it's hard on tyres (particularly soft ones like the WE) but in use they are great tyre, especially the front, it grips like shit on a blanket. I just can't be doing with tyres that won't stay up.

I've been on my Wild Enduro Set for nearly a month.

I'm also having issues with air loss. My rear rim happens to have a flat spot and the rear tyre tends to burp there. Never had an issue with that flat spot with various Exo and Doubledown tyres before, seems like the rear Wild Enduro hast a stiffer bead that will not seat as well there. I need to add more sealant, there's not much of it inside and might be making things worse.

Performance wise, the front seems to not be as good as a DHF on very dry trails and on loose over hard terrain. On more moist trails, roots and rocks however, seems to be quite better than the DHF.
I'm also on the fence regarding the rear one. The 30mm rim gives it a squarish profile, it's quite sensitive to any braking or weight shift mid corner and there's the air loss thing. But on the other hand I don't think I ever tried a tyre with such good combination of climbing and braking traction together with fairly reasonable rolling resistance

Mine were losing air after a few days when I first fitted them. After a couple of rides, they haven't done it since.

Tried them on a fair bit of terrain now (Lakes rocks, wet, mud, roots etc) and can say these are my new favourite tyres.

Update on my part after about 20 rides or so. They're mounted on 29 30mm wide rims, Rimpact front and rear.

Front - I think I've started to get how this tyre corners. While on a DHF you're very pushed to lean the bike under you (body-bike separation) while the WE seems to work better if you lean with the bike. Not convinced on hardpack, DHF definitely better here, but feels safer everywhere else. Very soft rubber, don't think they'll last long, maybe 2 or 3 months max.

Rear - can confirm, these have a fantastic balance between braking traction, climbing traction and rolling resistance. Cornering is good, once you adapt your technique, as per the front one. Very soft compound, already lost a couple of knobs, quite disappointing. Also, seems not to be as resistant as a DD casing, already have a mean looking slash on the sidewall, which never happened to me on 8 months of DD use, on the same trails (I know, could be bad luck).

Both front and rear feel stiff and have a muted, damped ride feel typical of heavier tyres, which I like.

All in all, unless they suddenly stop wearing at the present rate and the slash was a bonkers isolated incident, I don't think I will buy again. Performance is great, but they seem to wear too fast and the casing apparently isn't up to Doubledown resistance.
Don't let the lower price fool you, it's a false economy, these will likely cost more £ per mile than Maxxis

I bought one of these as everyone switched over, still not fitted it, every time i go to a bike park or wherever i just find the DHF just does the job well, winter is magic marys, so might not fit this one this year!

On more moist trails, roots and rocks however, seems to be quite better than the DHF.

Absolutely agree with this, last couple of rides have been back on a DHF and the ground's had some rain, and it's caught me out a bit having spent a good few months on the Michelin WE, not nearly as grippy in those conditions, On loose over hard packed stuff I think the DHF is untouchable

Very soft compound, already lost a couple of knobs, quite disappointing

Wear rate of the rear is quite shocking isn't it? I put them on just before lockdown, so early March, and if I'm honest the rear is pretty much fit for the bin. The front has maybe some life left in it, but I can't be doing with the air loss.

I've had good wear out of them maybe 1200miles

Back ones a touch low on the main blocks but unlike schwalbe I've not lost a load of knobbles

I'd be buying another set

another here with good wear out of the rear, not tried the front yet.
just put a new rear on recently after about 1000miles after putting a hole in it. it was fairly well worn but the knobs where all still there. lasted much better than the DHR2 and seems to stand up to sharp rocks as well as a DD IME.

Mine are still going strong! Ridden every weekend on all sorts of rocks, roots, mud etc and don't ever seem to put a foot wrong.

They even made me look cool with a 2 wheel drift around a corner at Coed-Y-Brenin haha.

Few weeks ago, I was flying down bacon slicer at Grizedale and felt the front bottom out a few times on the rim. They shrugged it off no bother!

All the tyres I've managed to kill have been in the Lakes (even a brand new DD Aggressor).

I find tyres are much like saddles, they're such a personal choice based on riding style, location etc.

I have a love / hate relationship with the Wild Enduro I fitted to the rear of my hardtail a month ago, in 29x2.4 size, with a pool noodle on 30mm rims. I have a 2.6 Magic Mary on the front.
It rolls really well, as good as a Maxxis Agressor, better than a Minion or HR2.
It grips well, better than a DHF, HR2 & Agressor. Not quite at DHR2 level, but close. It's only weakness has been in dust over loose rocks, but it's good enough, and great everywhere else.

However with only 4 rides under it's belt I have punctured twice, and the tread is looking more worn than expected.

In last 18 months I have 3 Maxxis tyres go wobbly, so I think the new Schwalbe tyres will be my next purchase.

Very much this too, my rides are winch up and plummet down, because of this I care more for braking then rolling resistance

Sorry for another "will I die" question but will I die?

Been on since January, should I replace urgently or will it last a while?
Is this normal, always used to ride Nobby Nics and never had this problem.
Hmm, photo is rather cropped but shows the problem.

^what he said. Mine looks similar to that after a year of hard riding. The side knobs are showing some superficial cracks at the base and all the sipping has worn off the knobs. I've never had a maxxis or schwalbe tyre last long enough to wear that much!

That looks near new to me.

Anyway, I need to be fair and update my past comments on the Wild Enduro durability. After first sudden degradation signs, they seem to stay stable wear wise so far. It's a very different behaviour compared to Maxxis, where you get a progressive wear rate. The Michelins just seem to wear a lot on the first few weeks but then stay that way, if this makes sense

Mine never got that far, I had more punctures in the few months I used them for than I have had in the last few years. Gave up, put Maxxis back on. More grip & no punctures.

Positives? I guess they are cheap.

Still going strong on mine and soon to be seeing a new bike 🙂

I'm actually exited to be able to wear a set of tyres out rather than slashing them to death!

Just gonna throw it out there and jinx myself. These are the only set of tyres that I've not managed to stick a hole in yet... You hear that Universe?!

I bought mine for France this year which was a Covid write off.  They've been on through a summer and have shown similar wear.  I'm wondering whether this is partially due to the dry weather we had meaning less give in corners -> more pressure on the side knobs.

I've replaced them with my usual which is a set of Exo Minions (stuggled to find Exo+ or DD at a reasonable price) plus trying some Rimpacts and am saving the Michelins for next summer's trip away.  I don't have a big issue with punctures / tears as south based so don't ride much in terms of sharp rocks.
