I have ridden a pair of hope rs monos for the last 5 years covering about 15000 miles in all seasons, recently switched over to miche primato hubs built up by a well known wheel builder. In 3000 miles the spring holding the pawls has rusted through and the bearings have been replaced. I never rebuilt the hope hubs, just changed the bearings a couple of times - do miche hubs require regular maintenance compared to hope's. Thnaks

Yep the miche primoto hubs are cheap and need a little more work care plus the pawl springs are cheap steel and the freehub ma not very well sealed.

Miche Primato are nowhere near the quality of Hopes. Why did you switch?

Clodhopper, I wanted something lighter and quieter and the wheel builder was not a fan of hope. Since the pawl spring failed, I don't trust the hub so on the look out for something new - probably hope and a tubeless compatible rim

But Hope Monos are lighter than the Miche's? Did your wheelbuilder express why they aren't a 'fan'? Genuinely curious, as someone who's used Hope hubs for over 20 years without a single issue.

Cracks in the flange. In his defense, he has been in the business a long time and the new wheels did feel more responsive than my hope hoops, the tension in the spokes was higher and more even. It was just that the hubs were not particularly well sealed as cannondaleking said. Think I will try JRA

Interesting. Never had an issue with Hopes in over 20 years. Built several sets. Having seen cracked flanges in many different brands of hub, from DT, Shimano, Tune and even Chris King, I'd be surprised if Hope are any more prone to this than other brands.

Do Miche make their own hubs?

They look very much like Joytech or Novatech to me.

Hmm not really what I wanted to read after just ordering a set of miche on archetypes. Are primato same as the box rc2?

These will be my commuters 'summer' wheels so hopefully won't get too tough a life
