Spent several hours  messaging back and forth with a mate who was looking for new tyres trying to figure that 4D maze that is Schwalbe's tyre compounds..  there seems to be literally hundreds of them.  In the end we gave up and he didn't buy anything..  why so complicated.?

He was looking for 27.5" Magic Mary/Hans Dampf combo for a trail bike setup..  I figured.. 2.6 Soft MM and a 2.4 'less soft' HD. As far as I could tell that meant an 'Orange' stripe MM (not red as that's the hard 'speed' compound for XC racing (who the hell thought having orange and red as indicators for compounds at opposite ends of the spectrum was a good idea!???)) and a blue stripe HD.

Given that, we ended up faced with a tanwall/skinwall HD with a blackwall MM..  I had to veto that on bad taste grounds.!! 😀

They're only to go on the back of the Eeb, so i don't really care what they are as long as they're tubless and reasonable.

I'm always forgetting about my Merlin cycles loyalty points. Currently sitting at 800 😆 I keep buying stuff but forget to apply the points for a discount 🙄

Damn, can't see any crazy prices on 29ers! Michelin Wild Enduros are low at £30/£40 but never tried them.
I've only accidentally bought a "Performance" version of a Schwalbe tyre once and found it to be complete rubbish.
Best deal I found this week was on CRC
https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/continental-argotal-trail-mtb-tyre-endurance?color=black&wheelSizeWidth=29%22+%7C+2.6%22 so got one of those coming to try as a rear on the emtb

i went for a pair of soft 2.4 bronze MM/BB combo just to annoy my riding buddies.

they are decent though. were good in teh slop this morning. the narrower 2.4 is actually gripper than my 2.6 on the eeb. it cuts through better

Michelin Wild Enduros are low at £30

The Rear is excellent and I've already squirreled 2 away at that price.

The front is OK, but there are better options at similar prices.

I got a pair of my usual Wild Enduro's a couple of weeks ago for the eeb and since bought a couple of Maxxis for another bike.

Note, the Maxxis's were white-Maxxis rather than yellow-Maxxis - if that bothers folk.

Bought a pair of the wild enduro F and R a couple of weeks back. Had a couple of rides and they've done well in the slop. Certainly the stickiest feeling tyres I've ever had.

I like the Wild Enduro fronts, I just wish they would last a bit longer. 3 or 4 of mine have cracked around each knob long before they have worn out.

The rear is good, doesn't seem to suffer with the same cracking issue. My only complaint is I found it a bit draggy for pedally rides.

I find they roll better than most enduro tyres, but not as well as a trail tyre like a Hans Dampf.

Is the Schwalbe Hans Dampf Addix that they have on there for £17 a rear tyre? And if so what what you stick on the front to go with it?

Good PSA, thanks.

Picked up some of (what sounds like OEM) Recon Race which is exactly what Ive been using on my current bike. Then some lube and then a reduced jersey...all for smidge over £50!

Think i they are more of a hybrid tyre than full on mtb

That pattern isn't going to dig in much.

And they only come in "performance line". Proper MTB ones are at least available in "evolution line".

Been looking at the tyres but got no idea what’s good or bad!

I’m after something for the singlespeed that’s better than a Specialized Fast Trak for the winter slop. Looking for something around 29x2.3 to allow for a bit of mud clearance and not too expensive either.

Any suggestions?

My maxxis rekon race 29 x 2.25 have turned up. Does anyone know the specs for what I assume is an OEM version, just says 65psi. Wondering what the tpi is and are they tubeless ready etc?

If they’re oem they’re probably the maxxis with white writing on the sidewall.

Should still say TR if tubeless I think / Exo for the casing

Those cheap Mary’s are the Performance compound, does anyone have experience of that?

@kryton - don’t look at the bike park wired ones for £14.99 - they weigh a ton (nearly).

The ones at £22.99 are super trail / soft compound (orange stripe). They’re decent for all round trail riding. Got a couple in that compound and always thought they were decent in the muckier / muddy months.

I've looked around the websites for some info but no luck? They only say 65psi on the walls? They are foldable, would they have done a folding non tubeless version then? Maybe older stock? Yes the maxxis logo is in white but not much info at all like the compound either?
