Not a typo, has anyone else ridden the singletrack in the woods at Healls Scars - trails running all over the place!? Came across it today, very good. Techie and nadgery in places, fairly rocky, some reasonable size drop offs and a good alternative to the roads connecting the top of Bourton Combe with Brockley Combe. Cheeky, but thoroughly recommended.
Didnt have so much luck in Brockley Combe.
Hmmm - a good find then?
Sounds fun when's the next ride then?
Yep, know them well as i live a mile away from there!
Those woods are used my MX'ers alot, as you can probably tell. That loose limestone is lethal in the wet too. It's alright but did you ride Cheston Coombe? The short road climb back up is brutally steep though.
Brockley coombe has some good descents...well two on the Cleeve side as well as two over in Taps Coombe. There is some good but cheeky stuff in Goblin Coombe. Happy to show people one evening (best time to avoid walkers etc).
Bourton Coombe is my favorite as it's part of my commute most mornings.
I wonder if you found 'my' own singletrack i created a couple of years ago?
I've ridden Cheston Combe - looked good on the OS Map and mostly lives up to it (could someone remove that gate 1/2 way down please?).
Yup, that stuff in Healls Scars was perfect in the dry but is very rooty and limestoney.
Found some good singletrack above the Goblin Combe crags but didnt ride down the combe itself. I've also ridden an old DH run with a few jumps towards Cleeve that was OK.
It's a lucky Man that gets to commute along Bourton Combe - that's in my current Top 3 of local descents. I like the climb too.
Sounds like you know most of the best stuff.
My favourite loop is across Felton Common, up to Dundry and down along Elwell and Rocks Lane, Bourton Coombe, Cheston Coombe, Taps Coombe and then Brockley Coombe.
Unfortuantly, every ride from mine ends in a climb. Thats the problem with living on a hill!!!!
any of u guys no any nice loops starting around whitchurch village side of dundry whare im not going to get shot at lol i sometimes ride the small river/vally between stockwood and whitchurch and behind the golf course but only last about 40 mins
unfortunatley i dont drive tho.
Sorry, dont know anything around Whitchurch, I used to live that side of Bristol but did really ride much then.
nickegg - what are those Dundry bridleways like? There's a few on the map but I've never thought about riding them.
I go up Littleton Lane and down Elwell Lane. Elwell Lane is pretty rocky and great fun but always wet, even after the dry spring we've have.
Having come across Felton Common and out at the South Easterly corner and ride past Winford Manor and then due East on the bridleways that ends beside Spring Farm with the aqueduct behind you. Then across the B3130 and up Middleton Lane.
I've never bothered going further East than that TBH. Can't be arsed when i can ride Tinkers Lane onto Long Lane and from there straight into the top of Bourton Coombe via a short cut i cleared last spring!
