Yes, I know I'm an old fogey, hopelessly uncool and all that stuff, but I don't like bib tights. It's just too much faff for a quick piss, and with great age comes great incontinence. But scanning the pages of our favourite online merchants, there seems to be very little in the non-bib-variety tights available, and still less in stock at my size (L, before you start with the funny comments). Please tell me I'm not the only one, and pretty-please tell me where to look for tights 🙂

Eh? Just pull down the front and off you go. Unless you're a woman, in which case fair enough.

I don't like bibs either. If needed I just layer up a pair of generic sports tights over my cycling shorts (and under my trousers/shorts). Just search somewhere like Sports Direct for 'men's tights'.

People really do seem to overthink peeing in bibs for some reason. OTOH, 100% guaranteed that you'll need to poo as soon as you put them on

Trousers are the answer to every question about bib tights

Having tried a pair of suitably cut walking trousers as a trial last weekend, I concur

Go to a running shop instead of a bike shop, loads of non-bib ones to choose from, just wear your normal shorts underneath for the pad

Oh god I'm glad it's not just me. Every. Single. ****ing .Time!!!

To the op's question though, Decathlon https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/long-winter-bibless-cycling-shorts-rc100/_/R-p-332701?mc=8644132&c=BLACK

I just pull the front down, it's enough. I have a nice pair of Assos ones with a small fly at the front, that makes it even easier.

But yeah, pooing is quite difficult.

Until you trap something in the zip.

Kind of mistake you only make once though.

Trousers are the answer to every question about bib tights

Except for the question "what is the best type of leg covering option to wear when riding a bike in the winter".
They keep you warmer, flap less and deal with mud and the wet better.
They also stop builders bum which is extremely important too.

trousers are bloody terrible if you actually want to pedal, rubbing and moving and flapping, urrrgh.
Probably ok for winch and plummet.

Though, i've found a lot of winter tights are now getting so thick and heavy and so "feature rich" that they aren't stretchy any more...

Powerstretch leggings for when it gets too cold for Ron Hills. Perfect for cycling, walking, ski touring, etc. Needs a shell on top if wet or snowy and cycling shorts underneath on the bike.
Like these:

Trousers are the answer to every question about bib tights

As much as I love my riding trousers for MTB, tights are the way forward for use on my commute.

1) Trousers last a couple of seasons of use. Tights, even heavily used, last for years. I have worn through quite a few crotch-seams on trousers, but rarely ever wear out a pair of tights unless I crash and hole them.

2) Trousers are bulkier, so when the day warms up take up more room in the pack on the way home.

3) When I get to work and throw my soaked kit in the tumble, tights take less time to dry. This produces fewer complaints from the other wet riders waiting to use the tumble. 😀

Obviously, I'm only looking at it from my PoV, but I'd always use tights of some kind on the gravel bike and commute. But this:

trousers are bloody terrible if you actually want to pedal, rubbing and moving and flapping, urrrgh.

is just wrong and is what used to be said about baggy shorts. If they are rubbing, moving and flappy then you've bought the wrong trousers, Gromit. 😀

I've had half a dozen pairs, all from different manufacturers, they were all bloody useless.
I'm not trying again.

I don't need extra warmth when I'm on an MTB if I'm honest (sweaty bugger at best of times), most modern MTB specific trousers flap about no more than tights do, (ie they don't) mud will cover your trousers as much as tight will, fo'shure, In the wet however, trousers that come past the tops of your boots keep out significantly more water than tights do. Belts will stop builder's bum

Trousers for MTB - tick
Tights for road - tick

But WTF am I supposed to wear for gravel? Someone help me.

trousers that come past the tops of your boots

Are about as easy to find as a mating pair of unicorns.

Why in gods name is assumed that anyone who rides a mountain bike has a waist at least 10% bigger than their inside leg I will never know.

Also on the rare occasion you've found a pair in a 32/35, since the ankles are deliberately snug, they go inside your boots anyhow.

But WTF am I supposed to wear for gravel?

Well gravel's mainly a fashion thing so I guess some sort of rapha balenciaga collab.

OTOH, 100% guaranteed that you’ll need to poo as soon as you put them on

You make this sound like a bad thing, its absolutely a positive; it ensures you never need a poo mid ride.

Trouser are shite in the wet, sweaty and cold, tights for the win (though with waterproof short, as I'm no roadie)
Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan but it's about the right tool for the right job.. and tights for cold/winter riding is the correct tool

I like bib shorts and bib tights...I do the pull-the-front-down method but I'll be honest, I'm not gifted there so it needs to be a seriously big pull to make sure I can actually go!

I've settled on Lusso for tights (not overly impressed with their shorts though),comfy and durable, and the foot-loop is a must for me. Available from any shop with a Raleigh account (even if they don't sell Raleigh bikes). Wouldn't even consider running tights, was given a pair, and the cut is just wrong for cycling.

By jingo you’re right - I’ve been pissing wrong all my life and just needed you to set me straight. Or alternatively maybe I know more about my own urinary system than you do?

Came here expecting to hear of Mel Brooks’ demise. Glad it’s more mundane than that.

Trousers for all riding BTW.
