You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all, looking to become a member of one of these, mainly for insurance, legal back up etc, wondering what the collective experience of each is and if there was a stand out of the two?
BC more "roady-racy"
CTC more "commuter-MTB"
APF
It depends what you want. 10% off £100 or more at crc once every month more than pays for bc over a year for me.
I'd go CTC (cuk?) for sure, if it wasn't for that CRC discount.
London Cycling Campaign?

Similar legal/insurance benefits, and a strong campaign game. You don't have to be a Londoner to join.
(I'm in CTC and LCC, FWIW.)
BC gets 10% off on everything at Halfords...IE car parts, tools, and also when you buy the roller cabs on the annual bundle deal, plus reserve online price, plus BC membership discount at the till 🙂
So it seems it's about the discount then! Lcc is an interesting call, I'll look at them cheers
mainly for insurance, legal back up etc,
I switched to CTC after receiving a very poor response from BC legal. I know they have helped others and are probably fine for the 'usual' cases of being knocked off. I've not had to use CTC legal (yet) so they may not be any better. CTC appear to do more lobbying and campaigning for the interests of cyclists which I value.
A mate has had great service from CTC legal. They also have a wider range of discounts such as Cotswold and YHA. They also seem more active on access issues and safe cycling routes, and encourage people to get involved outside of riding - this last year I've marshalled at L'Eroica with them and done a free ride leaders workshop, both of which were great fun.
If I was a club run racer kind of guy, I'd be with BC. I'm a plodder, who rides off road as well, so CTC feels a better fit. I also live in between two active CTC groups so if I was so inclined I could be out plodding with them 4-5 days a week.
Just to add that a very good friend who's a member of CTC had a nasty accident and after several years her claim (against a Council) has been eventually finalised. Due to the nature of her injuries she had to see a multitude of specialists necessitating follow up visits and these were located in all different areas but all requiring an adult to accompany her.
Mostly she was happy with CTC's solicitor although there was the odd breakdown in communication. She had to keep a record/receipts of all her expenditure, loss of earnings etc. as well as for bike and clothing.
My CTC membership is about to run out so if I'm able to ride again some time in the future then will probably rejoin.
Great, thanks for the replies; not sure there's much in it, but ctc sounds like a good fit...
