Does anyone here ride in Melon Optics glasses? And if so do you have the Kingpin or Alleycat, and if you’ve tried both which do you prefer?
Also has anyone tried their Vantage lenses as I’m after a pair that i can use in sun and wooded areas on the same ride?
Cheers
I have the Alleycats, and I find them excellent except the anti-loss function does not work at all. If you find a set with smoke lenses and a grey frame somewhere up Les Arcs, they're mine. Or a black set with clear lens on my local trails, those are mine too
Best recommendation I can give is that I am still delighted with my third pair. And Melon did give me a discount to buy the replacements.
Can't speak for the kingpin, but other than styling preference, I don't see why you'd want a frame versus frameless for biking.
I have the Alleycat with, amongst other lenses, the photochromic which is great. They work really well with a Fox Speedframe, on my noggin anyway.
I have the kingpin - totally forget I am wearing them & they work well.
Will be asking for the photochromic lens for Christmas
Another positive vote for the Alleycat photochromatic, quick enough to react to changes in light condition and just work without really noticing.
Many thanks for the advice and info.
Alleycat with photo chromic lens. Use the low light lens in winter. Been using them for maybe 5 years.
Sport pursuit had them so reduction in price.
Alleycat photochromic here, good in all seasons.

I took both out at twilight one ride, and found the photochromic lets through more light than the low light (yellow) one. But otherwise when it's just dull the yellow does make the contrasts pop a bit more.
Don't forget they don't use the Zeiss lenses any more. Zeiss make excellent lenses and they have put the prices up since those days too. The vantage photochromic lenses are good, as are the regular photochromic ones, but the package is seriously overpriced for what it is.
There are just as good options for far less money. Melon are one for the YouTube/Insta fans only now really.
They are OK but scratch like hell if you don't look after them. There is an awful lot of marketing bollocks behind the brand, which is par for the course these days, but there are similar peforming products out there at half the price. I chose the Madison Cypher that came with 3 lenses and a hard case for 50 quid, they have been great and for me, they are more descreet than the weird frames of Melon and other brands. One thing that doesn't happen to me on the trails though "I am not always being asked about my glasses" If you know, you know 🙂
Mates who ride in themhave a mix of Alleycat and Kingpin. I find that the louder the person the more drawn to Kingpin it seems

I'm a terrible glasses scratcher, but have fared ok with my Melons so far
Maybe I'm a fanboi, but honestly - I've tried some Madison glasses and they don't even come close to Melons for quality of optics
And I don't get asked either - I know. She's fit though, for an engineer....
