He doesn't grasp that he'd get more respect for just holding his hand up than trying to make partial excuses.

There is the fact that he will be known as Joe 'CheatyMcCheatFace' Connell in most MTB (STW at least) circles. Knowing how most MTBers are, I expect that he will have the piss royally taken forever and a day at races too.

It's only the mega avalanche. It's a fun race and this year the Sunday races were run on a hastily arranged short course because of weather and no one knew what they heck was going on. I think everyone wants to move on from this years final.

I'll be amazed if anyone normal ever calls him that, you're making that common mistake of thinking STW is anything more than a tiny percentage of the MTB community.

Whiny middle class cockbag world strikes again

You're posting here. So I guess you mean yourself too?

Cheaters whether big or small time need calling out. Otherwise it just becomes normalised.
Next time I catch a kid looking at a phone in a test, passing a note to a mate, or plagiarising research from a website, I'll just pat them on the back and praise them for thinking outside the box shall I?

He could have held his hands up after the race, or at any time in the last 6 days, but it appears that he has only now apologised because he got caught on video and got called out on the internet repeatedly. Shit apology and shit response from all the people willing to gloss over his cheating.

I'm happy to say that Joe Connell will always be 'Mr Joe CheatyMcCheatFace races for Focus who like to sponsor cheaty riders Connell' to me. Bless his little cheaty socks 😀

Nope, next time you find someone cheating in a test (or race) or plagiarising just disqualify them from the test (or race), submission etc., tell them why they were wrong and hope that they understand and won't do it again....Or you could whip up a frenzy around the whole school or college and get all of the students and their friends on the internet to ritually humiliate them causing a disproportionate amount of upset and animosity.

Young guy does something stupid, gets caught and tries to wriggle out of it before finally admitting his mistake. It's hardly a new occurrence is it? I've no doubt he'll learn from it and hope that he's allowed to move on from it.

Jeez, some of you have no sense of humour do you!
Nobody's asking for him to be hung drawn and quartered, but if there is piss to be ripped then let it be so. If he'd admitted his mistake off the bat then fair enough, but a half hearted, and half-truthed apology from both him and Focus makes them fair game.

Going back to the cheating in school, then whilst I would accept an apology from a lower years student at anything above yr10-11 it can actually mean exams and controlled assessment can be invalidated. So there can be and are serious repurcussions to cheating.

Young guy does something stupid. If he'd managed to delete the references to it, various media outlets had omitted to name him thanks to sound commercial considerations, then he might have thought he could get away with it and conclude that cheating was a good way forward. I don't think being called a cheat when you are in fact, a cheat is the equivalent of a witch hunt.

Hopefully he'll lose his sponsors and have to put in a few shifts down the pit. He might grow up a bit then. The enduro scene reminds me of Angry Boys if I'm honest.

Highlight his potential for senior management while you are at it.

I don't really give a shit about it but I don't find it increasingly strange that sites are willing to discuss the incident and the subsequent ban/apology without naming the perp

It's not the actual cheating but all the stuff that came after it. If he had owned up straight away rather than deleting all the posts, the media being crap and the rather pathetic attempts at apologising from focus and himself we wouldn't be seeing this discussion. Had it been a non sponsored nobody (although I'd never heard of the bloke till this). You'd be seeing none of the attention the story has been given.

😆

Probably middleclass, I may or may not be a cockbag, but I generally prefer to do my whining away from the keyboard. Except when it comes to mildly trolling STW 😉

I sent Elliott a message, "Ride to the top?... the very top?" .......... he and his Nukeproof Mega arrived at the lift station ready for a mini-adventure after investing our life savings on the Swiss lift pass (70CHF, 1 ride).

Disappointing article.

Spoiler: They got a lift up, they didn't ride up at all.

Isn't that what everyone here does? I'd always assumed STW was one big (yet quite friendly) troll.
Occasionally someone wanders in who doesn't understand the rules, takes it too seriously, and runs away screaming. But you have to put up with some collateral damage.

It's a bit of a non-apology in as much as he's not really taken responsibility for the blatant cheat. If you take this line out

In the madness and confusion of the mass start I didn't realise which part of the track I was on until I reached the fireroad.

It sounds like a heartfelt apology but with it in, it's just doffing the cap with a "temporary insanity" plea.

Whatever. The world will get over it.
