RIDER 1613, anyone off here? Not so sneaky when you get caught on camera 😯
Possibly the Frenchest line I've ever seen.
easy enough to name and shame from the results page...shame it looks the rider in question is a sponsored rider.

Rider 1613 looks to have come 27th.
Just shocked it wasn't Joe Barnes tbh

So brazen it's almost funny.
Not gonna do wonders for his career, I'd imagine.
And it seems that as well as not being French, the offender is a DHer who's moved over to enduro this year.

Looks like things may have turned fruity as it's all been removed now (or at least I can't see anything)!
Reminds me of the Lance Armstrong line. Maybe he just over cooked it and he had no alternative than take the short cut and avoid the big que of riders in front of him slowing him down 😆
Wonder why it's been removed? Lad is a 'Focus' team rider...pretty stupid doing something so obvious in the age of Go Pro! What a plank

The article is still on the Dirt website, so I suppose its down to the comments on the Facebook video.
Funny! Wonder how long his FB page will last before the piss-taking comments start.
It's all gone from Dirt now from the look of things. Good advert for Focus bikes though, we are all mentioning them! So He's done his job!! 😆
Not really in the spirit of things.
Easy enough to find out who it is though.
Seriously?
I don't race but if I did I would sooner sit at home and watch tv than try and "compete" by doing that. 🙁

POSTED 2 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST
Agreed! At first I just thought why enter and then not ride it all when it turned out he's a sponsored rider I just though FFS!!
So what's the sanction then? DQ from the race? Sacked from the team for bringing them into disrepute!?!?!
Looks like folks are starting on his facebook page...gonna grab the popcorn

I guess it's a DSQ result if the organisers are actually interested in the event having any kind of credibility in its results. I would take a very, very dim view as a sponsor. From a personal perspective we all make mistakes when the adrenaline is flowing, what makes us a proper person is how we handle ourselves in a competitive situation. Personally I'm all for pushing the boundaries but that was a complete piss take
It's pretty interesting though because it's not quite like the usual "cutting a corner" where it's really about shortening the course or making a quicker route- what he's really doing there is jumping the queue. Not defending it, it's a straight up DQ but the motivation's not the same as normal #endurocheating
Nothing wrong with that line. Do you even Strava?
Sure this not a case of mistaken identity? Our corner cutting hero has a light/white coloured helmet. The bloke with 1613 on his back and Joe Connell on his FB page have a very definitely red helmet.
Front of his helmet is white, back is red.

Not sure it is - a splash of yellow but it does not look the same.
The comment on Facebook now seems to have disappeared. Can you remove peoples comments from your own posts?
So Dirt removed it, comments deleted of lads facebook page and it appears Ben Deakin has removed the video from his social media.....
Still on YouTube though
That said the lads riding jersey looks darker than the accused...
I must admit. The helmet does look different to me too.
Footage isn't clear enough, and he didn't look back to id the guy when he remained did he? I don't know how he could tell which rider it was then.
Surely if he didn't go outside any tape it's legit?
Generally the unwritten rule of enduro is you follow the obvious route. Normally cutting corners like shown i.e. that blatant and massive is a no-no.
They couldn't really fully tape the whole mega avalanche course.
Isn't that white course tape on the higher section of piste that he's riding down from?
So he was supposed to ride round that, not peel off beforehand
I just don't think he should be penalised just because everyone else took the chicken run while he rode the feature 🙂
Some shenanigans took place in that quali, places jumped around a fair bit in the hour or so after it finished... Looks like my mate just got promoted a space!
No question at all that he was outside the tapes there

on his instagram, there's pics of him face on where his helmet appears white at the front I suspect due to a combo of sunlight, light colours and a high gloss finish. (pic17 but also Pic2 a bit).

Damn, too late to the party, Youtube video appears to have been taken down now.
This stinks.
Advertiser 'requesting' it be removed or genuine mistaken identity?
Best way would be for Focus to release Joe's go pro footage so we can see for yourself if it wasnt him.
I am now more convinced it was by the removal of everything but no statements to correct the accusation.

Ah hah. But you know, every time you have a bit of footage you really want, there's a huge glob of mud on the camera or you took 1 photo instead of recording
Ive just captured the video in case it all goes missing.
Not sure why since its nothing to do with me!
Videos and posts pretty much all gone from FB & Youtube. Well brushed under the carpet, that didn't happen them, move on.
Except to see Ben deakin on focus bikes next season...
Well if it is swept under the carpet Focus won't be getting any of my money.
lol like how the rider with footage calls him out.

Or the action goes under a tree at just the moment you want to see it.

Yes you can
Check out the notes by the riders name (27th) 😆

he was getting a fair few comments on insta too, all deleted by last night......
should be ashamed really, to boast hes then finished 27th or whatever it was.....and who knows if he took a line that there, whats to say he didn't do it further on, or before in the race (just no footage)
Ben Deakin says he took the video down as the lad was getting destroyed over it!
lol @ cheaty mccheatface
Cracking vid here @ 12.00min from someone lower down the order
Cringe 🙁
Got to say watching ^, I'm struggling to see the attraction of MA as an event. Not so much a race as a lottery and an event where being an antisocial arse helps you make progress. Can you do the same route on another day or is it open for the event only? Is that the attraction?
That's kind of how I've always felt about it, I'd probably end up in the procession since i'm not super-fast, and I'm not an aggressive overtaker or cheat. But most people who've done it rave about it so I've assumed that it's one of those things that you really need to do, to get.
Can you do the same route on another day or is it open for the event only?
EN1 on the map
I intending on doing it next year, I have a score to settle with the mega. I think the carnage is half the appeal, 350 mass start on a glacier etc... the an hour gruelling hour of overtaking people and being overtaken.

It's a race at the end of the day - riding aggressively is part of the package if you want to do well.
That said, it's possible to not be a douche, take people out & still do well. I managed my first year to come from the 8th row back in my quali (when they were bigger, 250 per heat) to qualify for the main race & I wasn't fast back then.
You just have to think outside the box with line choice. If there isn't tape, it's a total free reign. If you're a sheep, and follow the main line, it's just a precession all the way down.
The actual race is worse in that respect, once off the glacier, if you are in the pack, until you get near to ADH it can be pretty tedious, unless you take some big risks. It opens up after that though.
I posted a link to that metacafe vid on PinkBike. It last 5 minutes before vanishing....
Good old mountainbiking protecting its own 🙄
Can someone who saw the vid describe what happened?
Bloke cuts 100m off the course bypassing a switchback type corner to avoid a queue.
And changed his helmet when he rejoined the course, so it was a different colour.
I was more concerned about how blurry the "go-pro" footage was. Certainly couldn't make out a race number on the guy that pretended to be bertie.
That's like one of my lines when I don't brake hard enough for a corner lol
don't really get why fellow mtb'ers in the business are trying defend/ignore/remove it like it never happened, its as blatant cheating as you'll see, enough for ben deakin, to call him out mid ride, and be pissed off...as I'm sure all others he cheated out of a place would be too if theyd seen it
if hes happy to cheat as a pro rider he should be happy with the consequences of it, and getting murdered by the general public (fellow mtb'ers), not just ignoring it like it never happened, deleting comments on his own insta of people calling him a cheat, but happy to take the adjulation of get 27th overall 🙄
I imagine he's denying it and things are being removed as a precaution.
Perhaps we'll hear something from the race organisers soon.
This will stay with him for the rest of his career anyway... note the comment about Joe Barnes in this thread.
Did I miss something? When did Joe Barnes cheat?
Google shows that results have been removed when searching the term 'Joe Barnes cheat' or similar.
Joe was banned from the original UKGE series for some creative line choice.
If it were me and I had been wrongly accused i would not be deleting peoples comments more proving it was not me and making a statement on my social media pages to that effect.
Silence can speak volumes eh russyh?
Joe was banned from the original UKGE series for some creative line choice.
They've cleaned up well after that mess then! I can't find any results on Google using any terms. Every term I try, Google says 'Some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe.'
Silence can speak volumes eh russyh?
Agreed...either speak our or withdraw from the race as far as i'm concerned. Sure i feel for him if it isnt actually him, but in this world of social media courts you are guilty until proved innocent nowadays.
They've cleaned up well after that mess then!
It was mostly on the UKGE closed facebook page to be fair.
Did I miss something? When did Joe Barnes cheat?
You idiot...it was John Barnes cheating .
It was mostly on the UKGE closed facebook page to be fair.
Weird eh? Any other sport it'd be big news that a well known participant was cheating!
Was that not also the second offence after a Hamsterley "screw the trail, take the fireroad" incident? (Possibly also done by Dan Atherton?)
Search really hard and you might be able to find out something about Karim Amour getting a different ban
Am I right in thinking there was a big feature in Dirt on course taping in enduro, with Joe asked some pointed questions about shortcuts but no outright accusations?
It followed an incident where the race organisers had felt a line was too obvious to require taping, IIRC. So any cheating was more of a matter of interpretation.
