if im running 36-22 upfront and 11-34 at the rear, am i right in thinking that i can have a medium cage derailleur? had a branch to xt interface situation today at mugdock. bummer.

all my bikes have medium cage rear mechs, works fine with the 44t chain ring too. Long cage is just too long, drags along the floor like a seals ar$e.

i too run 22/36 with a short (medium) cage xt.

aslong as there are a few links worth of slack when on big cogs you'll be fine. small/small cog may mean the chain will rub against the mech on it's return but you shouldn't be in that gear anyway.
