Starting tonight and ending sometime at the weekend, Guy Martin and l will be riding our bikes coast to coast across Scotland from Berwick on Tweed to Stranraer, riding all of the 7 Stanes mountain bike trails along the way.

On arrival in Stranraer, we’ll be getting on a ferry to Northern Ireland (Friday evening hopefully) and riding from coast to coast there too, also riding the four MTB trails over there. The total distance is about 600 miles, about 150miles of it is offroad.

We’ll be dining on petrol station cuisine and sleeping in bus shelters, but mainly we’ll be pedalling.

This is in aid of the Ride For Michael charity, helping a Michael Bonney get back on a bike after an accident left him paralysed from the neck down.
More details (and a handy link for donations!) here https://www.gofundme.com/getmichaeltopedal

Good luck. When you're doing Dalbeattie you don't need to ride all the way to the start of the trails but can join them at colvend or Barnbarroch. That's presuming you're taking the coast road thhough rather than the not so nice main road from dumfries.

There is a nice off road route that links between Mabie and Dalbeattie - though it does involve a long climb.

Good luck Jason and Guy.

Surely there are some STW forum members who could put you both up along the way so you don't have to sleep wild. Or at least let you erect tents in their garden so you can have a proper shower and a mug of tea before you set off.

The trip from Castlewellan to Rostrevor will be nice - if you were a week later I'd have come to see you with tea and cake

Good luck tho - and I've donated

You'd be welcome to kip for a few hours/shower/get food at my house as i guess you'll be passing through Kirkcudbright at some point on your route. I may even join you for a spin round Kirroughtree if that wouldn't be an imposition, but i'd have to ride my ebike.

I have a spinal cord injury myself so i'll bung a few £ to your fund

Good luck!.

I guess the sleeping wild is training and testing of equipment for the tdr so you'd be hindering them (in a way) by offering a bed and a brew.
Hope they find time to put some pics up.

Strava track doesn't show a Dalbeattie/Mabie trail centres being visited (+ others probably). Thought they were riding all the centres ?

aims of the ride, in order of priority, were to:

1. Raise awareness of Michael's situation and raise money
2. Ride coast to coast to coast to coast.
3. Get a load of miles in
4. Make it back for work Monday morning
5. Play at the trail centres

We did 1-4 but we didn't do all of the trail centres - our average speed (taking into account tea stops) and the ferry timetable and their policy on foot passengers on certain crossings didn't allow us to do all the trail centres. We basically had to sprint the last 90 miles to Cairnryan otherwise the whole job would have gone tits up.

Absolute top effort, hope you both get the donations you thoroughly deserve for Michael. Sprint 90 miles, on a good day most of us are lucky to do 90 metres. Again well done to you both.

Cycling 90miles along the A75 whilst attempting to avoid being squished by the ferry traffic and **** -wit drivers is more of an acheivement than riding any trail centre - well done peeps.

Heads up all- The page is very slow once you submit your details. It took a few minutes and I only got an email confirmation, the page was still processing.
