Heading to Austria on the weekend.
Did a thread search on here but the posts seem a few years old.
Any update on the trails in Mayrhofen? Most of what I've found online suggests it's the usual xc type rides (fire road) with a couple of token singletrack trails near the Penkenbahn lift.
Not sure whether to take my rigid 29er Stooge and embrace the xc or take my Bossnut in the hope for better things...
We're off there in a fortnight. Penken is the main area. as you say it's mainly XC and pleasant ambulations above the treeline. There is some freeridey type stuff now & plenty of off-grid stuff that the locals use.
Ahorn is verboten on the lift, but I reckon you could ride up if you so wish.
Bit further down the valley & Zell am Ziller is more properly set up for uplifts, though I had the family in tow so couldn't do any real exploring.
Everyone and their dog will be on ebikes. Really, everyone. From the postman, to some doddery old granny, to the local kids.
It’s been a few years since I was in the Zillertal checking out the riding (steep, technical’s my kind of thing ). Other than the Hollenritt trail into Mayrhofen and an enjoyable dh run up at Zell I didn’t come across much else and haven’t been back since, preferring other places in Austria to ride... The Zillertal markets itself as the premier holiday valley in Austria for family walking holidays so don’t really want anything to bother that, which is the norm for such places. Should be plenty of fire road touring though...
