You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Morning all,
I have just perused previous threads in which these two racks are discussed, and I have visited roofbox.co.uk, but wondered if anyone had any experience of carrying a tandem and whether my thinking is going in the right direction.
Car is a Skoda Octavia III (2014, not an estate). It has the glass boot so my current rack is a Saris Bones 2, but there are four of us and the kids are old enough that we can begin to do interesting rides together, and I'm just finishing a tandem build... For the tandem, if I remove the wheels the frame and fork should have about the same width as a big 29er with wheels on (right?), but this means I must forget all platform-style tow ball-mounted racks. It has to be a hang on.
I don't have a tow ball fitted yet but will get it done next month. Nose weight for the Octavia is 75kg, so I know I'm going to be close to the limit but only the tandem and my full sus are heavy builds. This won't be for frequent use but for the 3-4 long-distance trips we do in France each year (I live in France). I had been leaning towards the Maxxrack as I can use my €s to support British manufacturing (:D) but now the globalist in me has spotted the Buffalo for €164 delivered... I would have to buy and pick up a Maxxrack when I'm next in the UK (mid-June), which'd be plenty of fun on Eurostar and then lugging across Paris to Versailles on the RER!
Do any of you have any comments on these racks and their projected use, or alternatives? I'm definitely looking lower down on the cost spectrum due to low intensity usage and.... it's going on a Skoda...
Many thanks,
Oli
Bump for those who've been out cycling all day 😀
