Seriously, jsut removing a mint Swampthing to put on a Ardent (bought at the end of Summer/4rides?) and both sides are almost threadbear in parts- looks like Ive ridden a fair distance on them with a flat. Why?!

Same happened to a Larsen (however that was one ride).

Older Maxxis's I own are fine and those are single ply as well.

Anyone else?!

yeah, my sidewalls are showing through too. Pretty much all around the tyre on both sides. Tread wear is fine. Mine's a minion rear (single ply), about 5 months old and not had that much abuse.

Running at too low pressures?

I'm running non-UST tubeless, so they can't be that threadbare.
What's Marzocchi got to do with it?
😕

Something is causing the sidewall to fret and wear - just a guess from me but the lower the pressure the more the sidewall flexes

I typically run 50psi in my 2.35 HRs.

Grip is soooo overrated...

50psi? Grip AND fillings!

Hang on. It cant be the psi that Im running. Ive used my Swampthings constantly (front and rear) and they dont have a single mark on the sides.

The Ardent/Larsens actually look like Ive ridden on the rims for miles.

Is it not just the innermost layer having exposed 'threads'? There's no need for the inside of the tyre to look tidy and smooth.

boxelder- its the external sidewalls showing the threads.

I get the same on prettyt much all offroad tyres but pretty sure thats from running low pressure (35psi also and yes I consider that low).

Oh and I rather like my Z1s.

I had this happen. Contacted the importers, sent them pics, and they sent me a new tyre.

Could it be that the tyres have been sat around for a while since production and before purchase and the rubber has degraded in that time?
Just a thought, no idea if it has any bearing what's happening to them?
