I know, another yawn city tyre thread, sorry.
I am currently using HR II 27.5", 2.3's and would like a faster rolling tyre for the rear for the summer months.
I do know from experience that, in 26", the 2.25 Ardent was larger than a 2.35 HR I.
Is anyone using a 2.3 HR II front and 2.25 Ardent rear in 27.5 flavour, and how do they size up? I don't really want a larger tyre on the back.
All the new Maxxis tyres are consistent with each other.
So a 2.25 Ardent is slightly smaller than a 2.3 HR II
IMO a 2.25 Ardent is a great rear tyre to go with a HR II or Minion front.
Thanks Alex,
I have been looking for the Crossmark in 2.25 but it doesn't seem to exist anywhere other then the Maxxis main site.
I did read a new bike review that had the HR / Ardent combo and wondered if the sizing had been rationalised.
Cheers!
Crossmark is old sizing - I have no idea how they measure up.
Ikon, Ardent and Ardent Race are all good summer rears and all size up consistently.
I like the volume of the Ardent 2.25 personally.
I would also like to try an Ikon 2.35 just to see.
in 26" days I just used to run a newer HR on the front and a part worn on the back, that way I only ever replaced one tyre at a time. However, both my newer HR II's have loads of tread.
I did buy an HR semi slick once, man that was scary on the back. Absolutely no braking whatsoever, but only became evident when I really needed it.
I will look at the Ikon as well. Thanks
I'm running a Minion DHF 2.3 on the front and an Ardent Race 2.2 on the back. It seems to be a great summer combo. Size wise, they seem to be about what they claim.
