Going on the rear of my Mk2 Solaris for winter. I just noticed a little bit of rub from the 2,8 Rocket Ron on hard cornering, so looking for a bit more frame clearance.
Anyone know how big they come up? It'll be on a i35 rim. Also interested in your experiences or any other small 2.8 tyres or true to size 2.6 that would be good for some winter miles around the south downs.
Thanks
I run a 2.8 rekon in the back of my mk2 solaris, it comes up a bit smaller than the 2.8 Ron and has been fine for the last 2 winters, I just put a bit of helitape on the chainstays to stop any mud damaging the paint.
2.8s in mine on 41mm external rims. Still loads of clearance. Stays are heli-taped - mainly for the mud hugger. I’m a big fan of the Rekon but I’m not sure it’s much good as a winter tyre. This year I’m trying a humungous Magic Mary 2.8 up front and a Maxxis Forecaster 2.6 out back.
One thing to note is the Mk2 has a low BB so running 2.6s might make a difference. Not much but I do get a few pedal strikes with the 2.8s. I’ll drop to 170 (or even 165mm) cranks at some point.
I’ve helitaped-but the rocket Ron has gone through the tape and taken the paint off the chainstay! Keen to avoid that getting worse. What size rim is your rekon on?
My Rekon comes up at 69mm at its widest, that's on 35mm internal rims.
