Going to BPW soon for the first time and I am running a DHRII EXO dual compound with an insert on the rear. When I go to Antur Stiniog I change it for a Magic Mary Super Gravity because of the sharp slate, uplift only and I always see people in the car park with flats.
I will be getting the uplift on the first day and riding up on the second day. Is it as hard on rear tyres as Antur? Can I get away with my current DHRII? Or should I just take the hit on the climbing on day 2 for the security of having the Magic Mary Super Gravity?
I like a pinch flat and have been fine on Exo tyres with no insert at BPW, though the rear would have been at 30psi ish. Also, I don't do any of the jumpy red/backs, though quite happy on the techy ones.
I never ride more than an EXO DHR2 - from trails, to BPW, down rocky snowdon or the lakes or the alps.
Maybe I'm just too slow to cut my tyres 🙂
Not much in the way of sharp things at BPW.
I use EXO DHF front and rear on mine, never had an issue.
That sounds good. I'll keep the DHRII on and take the Mary in the car just in case.
You’ll be alright. Last time I ran an exo dhf front and exo aggressor rear. Previously I ran conti mountain king 2 protections with tubes and only got a pinch flat on the very last run of the day.
There's a couple of places that can be pretty puncturey but they're also pretty obvious- like the rock garden in rim dinger, and one of the shorter blacks, I forget which- coal not dole maybe? But like I say, they're obvious, you've got plenty of opportunity to not hit the edges.
Antur is way way harder on them, just because of all that bloody slate.
Just a thought - why riding up on the 2nd day - is the uplift full? Might be worth considering Black Mountain Cycle Centre for the 2nd day if they have room on their uplift / it’s not forecast to
be really wet.
The trails are very different (more natural surface) and it’s got a much less commercial vibe.

In will check out BMCC and have a look at the level of the trails to see if my wife would feel comfortable on them.
Don’t look at full moto or Bomper videos and assume it’s all like that - I didn’t / couldn’t ride either.
It is quite jump and berm heavy - most of the reds and blues are rollable - but if you go belting down the trail at pace be prepared for the lips to chuck you in the air.
I loved it as someone who wants to get better at jumping. Moto is 3 or full tables in a row which can be rolled or jumped and there are some really addictive trails there.
The tractor and trailer uplift is nicer than a sweaty minibus as long as the weather is dry too.
Yeah, we almost didn't go because all the videos were jumpy. But then ChrisL, the least jumpy person in our group, pretty much booked it without asking and so we went and it was awesome and he totally won.
