Anyone got any comments/issues on the durability of the Exo sidewalls?
I've been running Exo Ardents for a few months tubeless without issues, but they've not spent much time in the rocks, so I'm not really sure of their abrasion resistance and durability- would it be a bit silly to use them instead of dual ply's for mincing in the Alps?
I've been using a pair of Exo Minions (tubeless) since the Singletrack Weekender last year so getting on for 11 months now and, apart from pinching the rear one during the DH, I have had no punctures, no tears and no troubles. I've raced Mini DH on them, ridden DH in Wharncliffe, ridden all year round in the Peaks on them and really run low pressures (I've had the crisscross pattern on the side) and they've been great. If I was heading to the Alps then I would not change them for dual plies.
silly question only you can know the answer to.
nothing wrong with asking for opinions, is there?
faced with exactly the same dilema having never been to the alps before and with a trip to Alp D'Huez looming, is the Exo up to the job? Maxxis say it's for rocky conditions but still left wondering are they tough enough? the weight is great compared to a dual ply and as I already have a pair of Exo Minions I could do without splashing out more dosh. Anyone used Exo's in the Alps and how did you get on with them?
In the end I bought a pair of Minion Exos, had no problems in the time I spent in the pds. Sidewalls are fine, I'll take them again.
just got back from riding 10 days of DH in Les Deux Alpes using Maxxis Minion 2.5 folding Exo's in 60a.
Tyres were fantastic, grip, strength and durability is really impressive. Rode the Mega Avalanche course in Alp D'Huez, very rocky on the upper stretches but no tyre problems at all.
Inspecting the tyres now I'm back in the U.K and no damage or excessive wear, tread blocks still good and in perfect condition, wear is minimal.
60a compound and exo sidewalls just seem to shrug it off, a fantastic tyre, won't hesitate to use them again.
