Maxxis Crossmark - your opinions please 😀
I like 'em for fast rolling light weight on the XC bike when then going's firm.
Fast rolling race tyre, more cornering grip than it looks like it should have (which is not much), lacking in braking edges, a little fragile in exception casing.
I use one in and out on the fast bike in the summer - on the back only. Anything loose / steep and the lack of braking edges becomes painfully apparent. They don't do mud, although on the plus side they don't hold mud either.
EDIT: Comments apply to 2.1" 62a - the 2.25" Maxpro I've no experience of.
Fantastic rear tyre - I use the 29'er 2.1 version, and would love a slightly bigger version.
Not ideal in mud - but that's pretty obvious! That said - I ran one on the back and an Ardent 2.25 front at Strathpuffer and they worked great....
Run one (2.25 60a) tubeless on the back of my Prophet MX all year round. Stick something more grippy up front (High Roller, Minion etc), great match.
That's what i'm thinking...
2.35 High Roller up front and 2.1 Crossmark Exception on the rear
Using the LUST versions & really rate them - very sensitive to pressure changes and I've found running them a tad softer than usual gives a load more grip with no real noticable loss of speed.
The guys at Skyline reckon it's a great rear tyre for there/trail centres in general. Makes sense - mostly hard ground, very little gloopy mud.
Love Crossmarks, more so on the rear as I've found them a bit washy on the front in loose conditions. I pretty much ride one in all conditions.
Currently trying out a Maxxis Aspen on the front as a better partner than an Ignitor or a Highroller.
I run the eXCeption casing ones tubeless, not found them to be fragile at all, although a season of racing will wear the tiny skim of rubber off the sidewall threads.
i have a 2.1 on the back of my love/hate with a NN 2.1 up front.
love the crossmark on the rear for speed and the NN up front for grip. its ok on the local trails at the minute due to them being hard but when it starts getting soft and muddy they arent the best as expected.
nice and fast. decent corner grip. i have a set of the cheap, 70a ones and as soon as there is any moisture about they can get a bit scarey. especially anywhere near a wet tree root. oh, did i mention they are fast though 🙂
Those Maxxis Aspens also look interesting
Yes I am running them as rear tyres only, with High roller up front, I really like them and they give more grip than you think. Main limit I find is climbing in the wet, they spin out pretty easily. Otherwise I like them lots.
When you spin out climbing - shift up - spinning out stops. Usually.... 😉
