Putting a Minion 29er on front, 2.35.

So 3C costs more but it's gripper...

But.... Slower and wears faster? Just how much faster is the wear though? I ride the North Downs, so huge bits of flint but not rock as such.

Cheers guys, sorry for a tyre thread! 😊

Yeah everytime.

Have to admit my worn 3C rear had become a bit of a boat anchor that drags whilst not really gripping...

You won't notice much difference in wear tbh. Makes it up in grip and therefore you'll be faster.

Ok, if wear isn't too bad I'll give it a shot.

Cheers guys! 👍

There 3C designation refers to the fact that the are 3 compounds used in the tyre construction (as opposed to their dual compound tyres). There are 3 different 3C compound combinations, MaxxSpeed (hardest) MaxxTerra (medium) and MaxxGrip (soft). Not all tyre models are available with all compound options. Simple huh?!?

Oh Bugger!

The ads don't say which 3C.Lol

Will have to look on the maxxis site to see what it's likely to be.

Buying from here. Well, was just about to....

Duh! It's the Maxx Terra which is probably what I'm after. Lol 😆

Didn't read description properly!

But with a minion 29 2.3 it'll be maxx terra, which is the sensible middle one. There's maxx speed, which doesn't really come in these sorts of tyres, and maxx gripp, which in 29er world is mostly for the dh versions.

By and large Maxxis do the most appropriate compound, you don't often get a choice. I've got a 2.5 dh carcass maxx grip and tbh I'd really like that rubber on my trail tyres but I suspect that's because I'm a sticky tyre fetishist and most people would hate it

Spot on Northwind. 😃

Just ordered and the Terra version is probably best for my purposes.

You probably wont notice the faster wear on the front but I moved a HR 3C to the rear and it did wear super quick there.

I used some super sticky Maxxis tyres front and rear in the Alps.  The rear wore out in the week, the front lasted fine.  Kept it on for the rest of the year back in the UK.

For wet rooty, difficult conditions Id go for a sticky front, but keep the back fast rolling if I was after speed and grip.  Personally I have a selection of tyres, so swop them depending.

Super sticky all round is a drag, but then it depends on what you want and only you can answer that.  So get two types and find out.

3c maxxgrip on the front every time if maxxis is your choice,  tried a Magic Mary on front last year & can't see me using anything else in future, although I found a 3c minion slightly better on hardpack/ trailcentre gravel trails. Never used 3c on rear so I'll say no more about that

@Trimix I used to be a huge SuperTackie fan, not sure they still make them, but IMHO 3C has all the grip with a lot less of the drag.

Well, maybe 90% of the grip 😉 in the right conditions they really were something to behold.

I've had a Maxterra DHR2 on the back for a year or so, and it's pretty knackered now, the front has fared a lot better
