I recently got a mk12 MaXx-D and straight out of the box it rattled noticeably, so sent it back and got a replacement. The replacement didn't rattle to begin with, but I've just fetched it from the bike to charge and now after 3 rides, it's rattling.

I assume this is something to do with the Reflex accelerometers but I've got a feeling I'll hear it riding. Will find out tonight.

My first bar mount did, then I broke it so got a new mount and then it didn’t. Is it the mount slightly loose or a rattle from in the light?

Thanks all, looks like it's faulty 🙁

@marksnook definitely the light, it's nowhere near the mount.

Demo one I used years ago rattled and that put me off for a while. Did buy one, MK8 I think and that was fine. I've also bought a Mk12 and that doesn't either.

It's the padding around the battery I believe, sometimes not fitted properly.

Bought a Toro and Maxx D to have have a heft and a look at the size and the beam.

Toro is PLENTY of light for the burn time I could need, and doesn't rattle. The Maxx D is big plus it rattles, so it's going back.

MaxxD 7 here - so it has reflex too. No rattles at all.. However...

The mount gets jammed and is difficult to remove from the taper vee attachment
You need the bar clamp pretty damn tight otherwise the light spins on the bars
The button on the back isn't great (in fact pretty rubbish, admittedly now improved)
The rear LCD panel degrades over time to become unreadable. Kind of necessary to have it as well given the single button to operate all functions.

I'm generally not impressed by Exposure lights - I certainly wont be having another one.

MaxxD Mk7, developed a rattle after a few years of use, sent back, they said it was the battery foam that had degraded from memory. Been fine the past 18months.

I've had two Maxx D's that have developed a rattle - sent back, as above its the foam that stops the battery pack moving around in the tube.

Thanks again for the replies.

It rattled a lot during tonight's ride so it's going back for replacement!

@cp I found a drop of oil was needed from the outset to get the clamp releasing nicely, but since then it's been fine in that regard.

I've just got a Maxx D, no rattle after first use. However I've swapped the bar mount for my old lumicycle quick release one.

I swap between 3 bikes frequently, and unbolting it was a PITA, its a particularly awkward bolt position, and all my bars are wildly different sizes.

The quick release was fine bouncing around on the first ride, fingers crossed.

Slight rattle on mine. More of a dull ‘knock’.

The rear LCD panel degrades over time to become unreadable. Kind of necessary to have it as well given the single button to operate all functions

mine did this. exposure upgraded the panel and firmware to the current one, £75 if I remember correctly.

Mine rattles every now & then. I wasn't worried, but now I am a bit!
Will be keeping an eye on it...

I tolerated the intermittent 'light knock' for a bit, but now it's gone full skeleton in biscuit tin. Frustrtating as this seems to be a known issue, it's an expensive bit of kit and only 15 months old. It was unused in the summer and first time with it on the bike this winter so hoping for a successful warranty outcome...

Mine developed a rattle a year in and exposure replaced the battery foam within a week.

Bought my MaxxD in 2015, mk7?. Started rattling in 2018, sent it back and it was rebuilt along with a new rear screen, dropped off on a Monday morning, picked it up on a Thursday, excellent service.

I have a Mk3! Doesn't rattle, but then it's probably pretty basic compared to the latest ones.

My Maxx D from circa 2009 didn't rattle until I read this thread a few months ago!

Dab of grease on the "shoe" that the light clips into and its sorted now.
