Just wanted to know if its worth having the maxle on
the rear swing arm and how stiffer would it be over
the quick release done up tight.
And what would the benefits be over the quick release.

Trouble with a question like yours, is you need someone with experience of both. Otherwise you'll get people like me, who've never tried the maxle saying 'don't bother, just do your QR up tight'
or other folk with maxles saying 'my bike is so stiff, defo get the maxle'

I was wondering the same thing. £100 is a lot of money for the upgrade!

As MFC says, I can't compare one against the other, but I just built up a Five with the Maxle rear end (I'd rather pay £100 for Maxle than a different colour, plus a given proportion of that will be taken up by the licence to Sram no doubt).
It is certainly a quick and simple system to use and given how forks are heading that way with well documented advantages, I've guessed that rear ends could be heading that way for the same reasoning. Can't say it bothers me if they don't though!!

Have tried both but not on an Orange Five, it was on a Nicolai Helius AM. Couldn't tell the difference in terms of stiffness but that's not to say it wasn't stiffer.

Main benefit I think is that the axle on the wheel is much stronger being 12mm rather than 10mm in diameter.

i ran mine with a 10mm bolt up rear. certainly stiffer but the wheel/hub weighed a ton.

I went back to a QR on a lighter wheel.

Bear in mind that a 12mm maxle will mean either a new hub or if are fortunate enough to have a hope hub a new axle (you can retro fit a 12mm through axle to pro 2 hubs)

I've got a five maxle. I think it's difficult to say whether you notice the stiffness unless you're going at it like Steve Peat. It has got to be more robust and sturdier than a QR. As I intend to keep my frame for good few years,I thought it was worth the upgrade.

Like mojo I've got the maxle rear but hadn't ridden the QR version.

Just thought It'd be a sturdier option. Certainly is!

I went from an '07 Patriot with a QR to an '08 with a Maxle. Exactly the same frames I think, apart from the back end. I like the Maxle - I'm no expert, but it feels slightly stiffer on fast, very rocky descents. Five with a Maxle will be a great bike. For a mint all-rounder I'd go for the spec with 36s.

I got QR fr and Rr and in hindsight I would def go maxle - have already converted to 9 and 10mm bolt through to stop the axles from moving d.t. 203 rotor jacking and squeaking - I'd def go for it myself 🙂
