Hi,
I'm probably being daft but it appears that my new front wheel does not want to fit into my new maxle fork. The hub seems too wide. How much overlap is there meant to be? (if any). Do you just pull the forks apart to fit around the hub? are there different hub widths?
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks
It's not an exact science, there can be a tiny bit of overlap, but you shouldn't have to force the legs of the fork to fit the hub. Have you converted a previously QR hub perchance?
everything is new. it is a brand new custom build. I have these wheels

and this fork

where did you get your maxle fork from..?
there are reports of OEM forks from certain large online retailers having slightly iffy tolerances..
edit: oh.. that wasn't the retailer I was thinking of.. have you had your LBS measure them up to see if they're straight..?
Hmmm...silly question, but are the fork adaptors on the right way around? Yes, I have fallen victim to this before myself with a set of adaptors for my Hope Bulb hub.
If you have to pull the legs apart a teeny bit then it shouldn't be an issue.
Possibly daft question, but you have got 15mm adaptors in the hub, not 20mm as they are wider.
I have come to the conclusion it is the hub. They are the adaptable ones and i think I just don't know how to adapt them to fit. I have had them a couple of months and have only just come to build it all up. I cant find any manual that might have come with the wheels (I know I'm an idiot). But the maxle adapting tube to convert from 20mm to 15 mm also doesn't go through the entire length of the hum at the moment. so everything seems to point towards the ends of the hub hole being removable. I just need to figure out how
after finding other attachments for the hub to convert the ends to 15mm, I have come to the conclusion that the old ones need yanking off. problem now is that they are not coming off when I yank them
I have the same wheels. (And in fact, the same forks.)
Need a pair of pliers to pull them off, but when you put the new ones on, give them a good old grease.
Also, you will notice with the 15mm adaptors, one is slightly wider than the other. This goes on the disc side. You should also have a metal tube which you slide down inside the 20mm tube. Grease this as well.
When everything is greased it should all slide together nice and easy, give it a squeeze to make sure the adaptors are seated properly and whack it in.
Awesome thanks very much Chris! Couldn't have hoped for a better reply! It is comforting to know that when I yanked them I had the right idea. I seem to have everything I need now so I will get to it in the morning. 😀
