Hi, has anyone run DH High Rollers non ust on ust rims. This will be used in the alps. Will the tyres be tough enough?
I'd prefer to run a sealant than use the heavy DH tubes again if possible.
Cheers,
Yep, ran all kinds of non UST DH tyres on UST rims, just put a bit of extra latex in there. After inflation the bead may leak a bit for a while until the latex forms a seal, but just keep moving the wheel so the latex keeps washing around the area leaking, it will seal eventually.
However if you do get a real stubbon tyre that wont seal, then plan B will work. Put a tube in, inflate to ~50psi and leave for 24hrs. Then break the bead on one side of the tyre only, remove tube, put in UST valve and latex, re-seat tyre bead and inflate.
I've done non-UST dualply highrollers on Flows (also not UST, but works the same). Was a little more hassle to mount them than usual because of the stiffness of the tyre, but nothing too troublesome- pretty sure I had to innertube them first but that's cool. (I don't leave it overnight fwiw, I just bead them and take the tube straight back out)
Thanks, I'll try the inner tube trick to get them on and bed them in.
Does a single ply HR settle in the same way? The beadings not as stiff but can the sealant and inner tube trick work in the same way?
Cheers.
i could not get High Roller II Exo to seat on Mavic Deemax rims.... would always pop/burp on a dodgy landing.
if anyone knows how to get them to behave without an innertube then i would like to know! otherwise i'll be trying the new Mavic tyre offerings.
I've got a roam on an sx rim at the moment and it's been problem free. Currently running it at 16psi and it's given just about enough grip in these lovely conditions.
FWIW I run decathlon special tubes in all my high roller trod dh bikes. No need for DH tubes.
