simple question for those with an ounce of sense.

Have the cassette off fine, there's a 5 mm hex key gap on the drive side. What else do I need to unscrew the freehub body to give it a poke/replace?

thanks

To clean and lubricate the freehub body on a current Mavic freehub you need 5mm and 10mm hex keys:
- remove the axel-end cap on the non-drive side by pulling it out
- insert the 10mm hex key in the nondrive side and the 5mm key in the drive side. Unscrew in a counterclockwise direction and remove the axel.
- lay the wheel on its side, cog side up
- carefully, while watching for the flying pawl springs, rotate the freehub body counterclockwise and pull up, removing the freehub body
- clean bits, then reassemble putting 10-20 drops of lightweight oil into the freehun.

hope that helps - extract from Zinn and the art of mountainbike maintenance which I can highly recommend!!

You don't need to remove the axle on Crossrides. Just hold the axle with a 5mm allen key and undo the locknut and remove it. Then just turn the freehub anti-clockwise and it should pull off the axle easy. Clean everything up, put a dab of light grease and lube on the pawl seats, 10 or so drops of lube on the freehub ratchets and bung it all back together. I use loctite on the axle thread.

Ta folks. I went and just gave it a good gung-ho twist (the NDS nut was very stiff) and it all came apart as if I'd planned it all along. 5 mm hex on DS, pair of spanners NDS or if like me you don't have a pair of spanners just haul on it.
