Picking up some secondhand good nick ones from a pal, to swop onto my Vagabond. Any experiences of tubeless conversion with Stans/Tesa tape and tubeless valves, or do I need a Stans conversion kit ? Will be fitting WTB Nano 2.1s in tubeless variety.

Done it with stans and gorilla tape + valves. Worked but they seemed to burp air very easily so couldn’t run low pressure. 20psi was risky

It's always possible but can be faffy. I just rebuild my 26" wheels that were on Mavic 717s onto these rims:

Near as dammit same ERD so straight swap and work far better.

It can be done, I've had a set of 719s set up tubeless. It helps that the inner rim width seems exactly the correct size for electrical tape to be layered up, just fit your valves of choice and away you go.

Yep, my old Cove was running these tubeless with 2.3 Hans Dampf / Rock Razor. Seemed to work ok and I didn't die.

I have struggled with some WTB tyres to get them to go tubeless, nothing that lots of soap and an airshot didn't fix

Edit: the tape was the cheap blue tape from planetx

Seen it done with Bontrager tubeless rim-strips, not made for those specific rims, obviously, but they do have bead retaining lips so are less prone to burping.

great, previous owner had them working with DT Tape and Stans Valve, but think I'll get a proper Stans kit to be sure...

I never had a lot of luck with rim strips. Although the old Eclipse system worked well enough. Most successful for me has been gorilla tape with enough wraps to increase the diameter of the rim bed. You're trying to get something close to the flat profile of a real tubeless rim that way when the tyre goes on it is *tight* making it much easier to inflate.
If the tyre goes on easily it will be a pig to get seated.

Stock Vagabond rims are tubeless ready. I’d stick with them as they’ll be a more reliable set up, and likely lighter once you’ve got the 719s tape layered up enough to seal with any reliability.

Dave, cheers, I just heard that too from Jon at Dales after dropping him a mail. Jolly efficient Genesis Rep! 😜
