Hi,
Has anyone experienced similar to this? I noticed the rear wheel be rocked back and forth with the brake fully engaged, which I don't think is normal. The movement seems to be in the hub. They're ITS-4 and I think the preload can be adjusted on these wheels, is it likely to be that? There doesn't appear to be any side to side movement so I don't think it's bearings.
Thanks!
Or am I just being stupid and there should be some movement whilst the hub engages? Am confused….
I don't think these hubs do have adjustable preload. If you look on YouTube for its4 service there is a Mavic vid showing the assembly diagram and I'm pretty sure there is no scope for backing off or increasing preload.
I would take the wheel off and check everything by hand for movement (loose disc bolts?) and maybe service it.
Looks like it might depend on which its4 version you have:
As above, sounds more likely to be loose disc mounting bolts. A few years back, we had problems with (I think) rear Crosstrails caused by the bearings being ridiculously slack on the axles. Mavic's solution was to jam a shim washer behind the bearing retaining circlip, which, unsurprisingly, was completely useless. With such crappy tolerances, and equally crap service back up, we settled on bearing retaining compound on the axle. Doubt very much that's your issue, but may be worth checking anyway.
Thanks both. I hadn’t considered the brakes being the issue, it could be a loose disc, or maybe pad movement but I’m pretty sure the disc was static.
I think I can adjust the bearing preload as it came with these:
So that might be the same as the bearing issue above?
Looks like I need to have a close look at everything. Thanks both 👍
Has to be the brake - the brake disc bolts directly to the axle body, so the freehub isn't in the loop if you have movement. Nor are the axle or bearings, the brake disc is connected directly to the rim via the hub body and spokes.
