Hi folks, does anyone have any experience, good or bad, of the mavic crossmax charge and roam xl tyres? Looking at em as an alternative to the maxxis and schwalbe norm! Has anyone ever fitted the charge as a rear tyre? Cheers!

I've just fitted a set of mavic crossmax enduro wts's to my new nomad. They came with those fitted.
I've only ridden around 40 miles on them but they seem pretty good, plenty of grip in fact they have a sticky finish on the whole contact surface that's quite tacky.
I've had no issues as yet but I won't be taking them to morzine as they do seem a little thin walled compared to Maxxis.

I'd say they are worth a try.

Charge is ace - if a little heavy as its dual ply - but pretty much bombproof

Roam is awful in anything but dry rocky / loose / loamy stuff.

EDIT -my skills may also be at fault here

Gonna give them a bash, thanks for the info. it was the roam that concerned me but I reckon the extra rolling speed will suit me. Cool beans

The Charge is superb on the front in all conditions, the Roam is woeful in most conditions. Not tried the Charge on the rear, would expect it to be pretty draggy

I'm currently running charge front and rear on my Mega am, great on the front, but as said far too draggy on the rear for anything other than DH, i'm tempted to try a roam on the back. Probably the easiest tyres I have ever used tubeless.

I'm using the charge on the front, it seems good & has a nice soft compound. Worth giving it a go

another positive on the Charge here. conversely to everyone above, i find the Roam to be a great tyre too, works well in a lot of conditions if you really push it.

Using this combo on my bike. Also quite like the roam despite what I had read and been told beforehand. I tend to lean the bike in to turns quite hard so haven't really encountered the vagueness that people talk about.

Looking at the roam isn't too confidence inspiring, it's pretty small and doesn't have the most aggressive tread pattern but I ran at y Mynydd dh track without any problems. Was pretty rubbish in the slop at QECP but given tread depth I wasn't surprised and a purgatory on the old bike suffered similarly.

Would I buy another? Probably for summer riding but I won't be running it in the Alps later this year.

Just thought i'd follow up my experiences with the Roam XL..

i've just popped a new one on the back of my new bike.

Previous bike was a saracen Ariel 15x, it worked beautifully on that.

New one is a Mondraker Dune RR and it is noticeably more wayward on this frame for some reason. I have no idea why this would be, but there you go!

Longer front-centre to chainstay ratio on the Mondraker, so more of your cornering force has to come from the rear tyre.
