I got a set of 2012 slrs in November and they have not had a massive amount of use over the winter as I use other bikes as well. The bearing on the disk side of the front wheel has seized solid and I have never had a jet wash near it and can't think of any time I have been axle deep in water. Has anyone else had a similar problem or is it just my bad luck as usual.

Hey, hard to say what's happened without more info, do you know what manufacturer of bearing it is?

I always remove a seal and fill any cartridge bearing with grease before using the product....hubs, jockeys, headsets, pivots, shocks with rose joints.
No premature failures to date.

NSK is a good brand, although I've seen some with what I would describe as excessive rust, mavic normally run SKF bearings.

If you bought them new I would contact who ever sold you them and ask for some new bearings, however a lot of companies will tell you to send them back knowing fine well that it doesn't make sense to, due to postage costs and time lost without wheels.

See if they will give you some bearings to replace them and as above pop off the seals put in some decent or good quality water proof bearing specific grease.

I always advise riders to buy good quality bearings as the cheap ones don't last very long and you end up changing them all the time.

Hope that makes some sense!

what PaulD said, **** all grease in new bearings.

Consumable item so I'd be surprised if you got a warranty.

There is normally a 25% to 35% grease fill in most new bearings, however it's a rotational grease so will wash out easily, you will also get condensation which will rust the bearing internally.

😀

Got it sorted, soake it in petrol for an hour managed to get it spinning freely and repacked it with grease. I will still be contacting the shop I bought it from tomorrow as if they were like this they probably have a baw hair of damage.
I did see a set of ceramic bearings for them for £300 😯 think I'll pass on that.

Ceramic bearings suck in terms of value for money, I sell top end bearings for the mavic hubs, if you need some just let me know and I can sell you them at a good price.

I got some hope bulbs laced onto mavic d521's today for my shop / run about bike, lovely old wheels and my bike is almost finished, just a new frame to go 😀
