I will need a new rim for my Mavic Ksyrium SL rear wheel. Does anybody know what a replacement rim and build is likely to cost me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

They get sent off to Mavic - if I remember correctly. About £100 - but that was quite a few years ago. When I was racing alot I used to bust the odd Ksyrium SL 🙁

A replacement rim is available to buy from
Behind the bike shed, brighton is where they are. I bought a rim last year it was £80 ish.
Your LBS wheel builder will be able to change it for you.

I did mine, worked out about £150 with spokes as the nipples tend to seize after a few years and you have to cut them out. Spokes are expensive.

I got a pair of Kysrium Equipes out of the scrap bin as the rear needed a re-rim. It was a few years ago, the rim came from Chickens as I was in the trade at the time.

As a bit of a scumbag I wasn't going to buy new spokes or nipples and just sprayed them a few days running with plusgas or wd40 and they undid nicely, I then refitted them using a bit of linseed on the nipples to make sure they tensioned up nicely and didn't move.

Do you know how old the wheel is? and is it silver?

Mavic only have rims left for the SL's 2008+ and in black.

If you send it to the service centre in Camberley, they will put new spokes in as well as the rim. Their estimated cost is £220

The rims are about £100 depending on the exact year & model of SL

Not SL, but good enough.

No it's not, doesn't have the same spokes as an SL, so won't fit.

I was going to say it's more like £200+, gotta love factory wheels!

Its a 2010 or 2011 wheel.
The spokes look intact. No winter or wet riding on them at all.
Hopefully be able to re-use the existing spokes and nipples.

Push come to shove though. £220 is a reasonable price for a good rear wheel I guess.

The SL 2010 is slightly different to the SL 2011.

The easiest way to tell which year it is, is by the spline on the Mavic M7 nipple.

The 2010 is slightly smaller, about 5.5mm across and the 2011 is about 6.5mm

youll be wanting the relevent metal mavic spoke key an all - the plastic piece of crap you get with the wheels is about as much use as a toaster is for removing the spokes.
