I am looking for a new set of wheels for my road bike. I previously bought the Cero AR24 wheels which I was very please with originally but after about 12 months and only around 3500km I started snapping spokes in the rear wheel and even after a full rebuild with stronger DT swiss spokes it wont stay true for very long. I think the rim is just too weak for my weight.
I am looking at the Mavic Ksyrium wheels and can get the Elite for about £390 or I could get the Pro for £485. Is the Pro worth the extra money.
I am a fairly heavy rider at 6'4" and around 90kg so looking for something that will be reliable on Devon's less than perfect roads.
I bought a set of Ksyrium Elites from cycle surgery in their spring sale for £360.
I did consider the pros but weight difference wasn’t worth it to me and the good price on the elites swung the deal.
No complaints so far , setting them up tubeless was a cinch and the supplied tyres better than expected.
Not ridden enough to give a true report on longevity but I’m 83kgs.
I went for ksyriums on the basis that my previous Ksyriums were more than up to handling my then 90kg weight.
Ksyriums are excellent wheels with the most incredibly strong spokes, which allow high tensions and very good stiffness. But don't bend a spoke because the stress riser will cause it to break a few weeks later with a frighteningly loud bang. Guess how I know this? Luckily the proprietary Mavic spoke system makes it easy to replace broken spokes.
I've just re-rimmed my elderly Ksyrium SL with a new (old style) Elite rim, which I got from a shop in France since Mavic discontinue all spares after five years. Rebuilding the wheel was an easy and enjoyable job.
