Another post from me about wheels. I brought some wheels that didn't match the sellers description, I'm not happy with them so trying to return them and looking at other sets.
Found the above and did some googling but didn't find many user reviews, anyone here have them/used then? How do they hold up, they are for a cotic soul and xc riding, nothing to gnar
Thanks
I wouldn't bother with factory wheels. Expensive, heavy, spares Can be hard to come by. Mavic spokes are a case in point.
With Light Bicycle et al doing carbon rims I'd be building on some hubs to suit your budget. Far nicer wheel set IMO.
I'm presuming second hand still with SLs? Don't think they're current. Check the bush on the freehub body, it wears and you get play. Check the hubs for evidence of spokes popping out too, was an issue on certain wheel sets.
On my second set of sl's, I will admit to being a fan of Mavic after many years use.
They have been fit and forget, worked everywhere from Xc to alps and beyond. Tubeless is criminally easy.
The have run true for years.
As mentioned, check the freehub play. The nylon bush can be replaced by a bearing, kits are on eBay. I'd not hesitate with another set.
Had a set back in about 2008.
They were very stiff for their (light) weight - as all Mavic wheels are - and they stayed true and I never needed to change a spoke.
The main downside was the very narrow rims IIRC.
If you want secondhand Mavics for XC stuff on a Soul, I'd look at the Crossmax ST.
They occasionally come up as clearance on Chain R etc etc.
