You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've been perusing lighter wheelets for my Trek Pro Caliber 6 cross-country bike for a wee while now, especially since weighing the wheels that came with them - they're circa 2200g. They're 25mm wide internally and I'm happy with 2.2" tyres running tubeless.
Since someone recently asked about an XC wheelset for circa £350 I've been looking at fitwheels.eu and the wheelset mentioned in that: https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/help-picking-350-29er-wheels/
By the time you've added boost options and the no-brainer 36t ratchet upgrade its getting on for £400
I'm aware of Mavic's current pickle but the Crossmax Elite Disc 29 Boost wheelset can be had for £340 with a few percent back on Quidco; very light at 1655g - but they are 22mm internally. Would I really notice that reduction in internal width?
Another, cheaper, option is Fulcrum Red Zone 5 at around £240 from Germany - 23mm and 1863g.
For info I'm circa 95kg (probably/undoubtedly gone up since lockdown) and this would be cross-country, not full-on mountain biking and two wheels that very seldom leave the ground.
Any opinions and thoughts welcome.
