What's the biggest 29" tyre you can fit in a converted set of sc32s? Could you squeeze a Knard in there?

It depends what length of spacer you fit (and therefore how much you reduce the travel)
I don't reckon you'd get a Knard in there with the standard 29" spacer but you could always cut the spacers in half and add an extra piece in the middle to let you get as much travel as possible without the tyre fouling the crown.
In other words add an amount equal to the increase in radius over a 29" x 2.35 tyre, like a NN.

Knard in a DUC32 - I machined up some longer spacers out of nylon bar.
