Matt Powdercoat finishes seem to be making a comeback at the moment. But how durable are they to live with?

I would of thought they would show up every mark, esp. fingerprints and oil stains.

Mine here, on my old GT Timberline single speed/hack, was a matt black powder coat. Its no less durable than any other gloss finish. It didn't mark at all. I loved the matt finish

Depends if you clean your bike to showroom finish after riding. If so I suspect the dried water marks I used to get on my quarterhorse would drive you mad. Didn't bother me but would be a pita to get spotless after every ride, or at least you'd have to make sure the frame is bone dry after washing.

No don't go for the showroom finish at all but don't want it to be covered in oil stains either.

Had my 5 frame done in a matt blue 12 months ago and it's in better condition now than the original gloss black was after the same time. The black actually went matt in the high rub areas thanks to the local grit where I locally ride. Both colours helitaped the same too, prefer the matt blue 😀

It's been on here a million times before, but I went for a coating similar to the bottom of a frying pan.

Looks a little tired now (7 1/2 years old and ignored) and patches of the chrome frame beneath are showing through (scraps rather than worn out) but cleans up surprising well. There are loads of colours (it's a public bench coating) and it's cheap.

I have a matt finish on my cannondale bad boy. It looks stunning (when clean) and had been just a durable as any other paint finish I have had. The only time it looks a bit strange is I use wonderwipes to clean it. They leave a residue that makes it look patchy. It soon disappears though and I dont bother cleaning it often.

I've just had my Heckler done and I'm really pleased. Greasy marks really show up on it though.

Am liking the look of the Saccades - don't suppose you happen to know if it has a name other than "public bench coating"?

Sorry no, the powder coater (Tallaght powder coating - might remember as it was one of the very first bikes that he did) had little metal disc swatches and I picked out the one I liked after I suggested something like the original hammerite.

It's nothing fancy.

Matt charcoal finish on my 9 year old hardtail. I've never cleaned it though so couldn't really comment on what it looks like 🙂

Bought a frame a little while ago which had just been powdercoated in a kind of satin gunmetal.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but seems VERY durable - so I thought I'd chip in anyway...
