[Closed] mate knocked off bike - tips for proceeding?

A mate was taken out by a taxi last week, broken hand & bike written off.
Neither of us has any experience with this sort of thing so any tips gratefully received.
He's not a member of British Cycling or CyclingUK but I understand he's been in touch with some solicitors.
He's also been in touch with the taxi firm and the licensing unit at the council.

Has he been in touch with the police too? Have to report an RTC if there is an injury I think.

When I got knocked off, (through thankfully with no injury) I went direct to the drivers insurance and got sorted that way.

Yes, police informed as he ended up in hospital.
Taxi driver just shrugged so doesn't seem like he's willing to accept fault.
