[Closed] Massively confused by hub widths

Long story ... I've a Ribble CGR AL e (the e standing for electric, don't judge, it's great commuting) that I'm adapting during the winter to work on a (wheel-on) turbo trainer.

The Ribble uses the ebikemotion read hub/motor which has a 135mm width, I guess for wider frame compatability. The rear spacing on the frame is therefor an unusual 135mm QR type fitment, with the ebikemotion hub bolted in place. Odd as the non-electric CGR is 142mm thru axle I believe, anyhow I digress...

So I'm trying to find a replacement rear wheel, as switching it out will remove the electric'ness and give me a normal gravel/road bike of sorts to work on the trainer. The bike came with a set of Mavic Askium Elite Disc rims, which are OK, so I hunted the same thing, but am I right in thinking that road hub spacing is 130mm QR or 142mm thru axle?

Do I therefore instead need to hunt out a 29" (700) mtb style wheel instead that is QR compatible still? The challenge however is finding one not too wide so it takes the skinny trainer wheel.

Or have I got it wrong and road disc hubs are 135mm? And it's rim brakes that are 130mm?

A 142mm TA hub is just a 135mm QR hub with different end caps, if that helps?

I thought 135mm was the standard MTB rear when qr’s were the norm

unusual 135mm QR type fitment

Isn't this the standard that was used for yonks before TAs came along, and still is on lower end bikes?

Yes, sorry, I mean unusual in that it's not thru-axle, rather than the size as such.

https://www.bike-components.de/en/Mavic/Aksium-Wheelset-p66638/

I'm confused by the specs on the above as it mentions: "Over Locknut Dimension: 10 x 130 mm quick release".

Is that because they are rim brakes and not disc?

How about the easiest. Measure OLD of wheel you are kicking out and use one with matching hub sizing for analogue version?

There is very few available 130mm Disc hubs/wheelsets on the market. Mainly available as OEM stuff. Personally seen only some Bontrager numbers and 1 aftermarket hub - BLB Via

Cheers!
I.

Road disc frames are 135mm QR or 142x12

130mm is only for rim brake road bikes.

The old wheel is definitely 135mm, and the frame is 135mm when I measure it with a steel rule.

It's more about ensuring the replacement I buy fits.

Thanks Horatio, that's the conclusion I was getting to, in a muddled way.

Yup, I was under the impression that only road/rim/QR was 130mm and that road/disc/QR had moved to 135mm for parity with MTB.

Shouldn't be hard to find what you neeed. These come as thru-axle but with QR adaptors.
