Hi,
I'm about to buy the above wheelset for my CX bike. Seem to get good reviews.
Does anyone on here have them and able to say good/bad about them?
Cheers for any help.
Yes.... but I use them as pure road wheels
1 had to go back to Hunt as I couldn't get it to go tubeless no matter what I did, they sorted it for me with zero cost at all to me.
Had them on 2 bike, used all year round, been faultless
I’ve had a pair on my winter road bike since October, only problem I’ve had was the front lock ring for the through axle adapter coming loose, this was sorted by application of thread lock.
I’m running Hutchinson Fusion All seasons tubeless which went up easily on the supplied tubeless tape and valves
Not run them on the cross bike yet.
Also running them mainly on road on my daily commuter. Only problem is that the free hub slips more often than i'm happy with but I haven't got round to doing anything about it. Otherwise good wheels
Had a set for a few weeks to replace the stock giant wheels on my defy. Weight difference was very noticeable, the hunts are a lot lighter. Only used on the road but I hit a pothole pretty hard on an unlit rd last week. Nothing, wheel still true,. A solid light wheelset!
Been using a set for over 12 months on my CAADX. Mostly commuting on road and canal path with occasional off road diversion. Running Schwalbe G-ones tubeless, no issues at all.
RNP - had a similar issue with mine, turned out to be a 5 minute job to whip the freehub off, clean and relube the pawls. Been fine since. There's a guide somewhere on Hunt website.
I have a set on my winter bike, 2 years old, never had a single issue. Running Schwalbe Pro One tubeless without issue, hardly ever have to top them up.
Also consider CRC's own Prime wheelsets.
I notice HUNT do 2 different sets of 4 season wheels. One specific to gravel CX. The other I guess are more arro road wheels coming in at 100g lighter.
I’m considering these wheels for running 28mm 4 season tyres for mainly road use and light gravel/tow path use. I’m around 85kg.
would I see any difference in the wheels above - best go for the lightest?
Or or am I better spending a little more and getting some hope rs4 on DT Swiss rr411 dB??
curently running fulcrum racing sport which came with my genesis Datum- I’m guessing again the above options would be good upgrade??
Cheers for the responses. I'm now off to buy a set of the Mason Hunt 4 season Gravel ....looking forward to the upgrade!!
Out of curiosity what hubs do they use for their wheels
They're just Novatech hubs with clever marketing.
They are just rebranded kinlin rims and novatech hubs aren't they? You could get the same (quite good rims) with better hubs for same money I'd think, sans branding.
Also look at Spokesman and cycle clinic handbuilt wheels.
I have a new DT Swiss 350 front hub sitting in the spares box, so think I’ll get the same rear and get them built up with some nice db spokes into a spare wheelset for my Vaya will work out cheaper than hunts
I've got two sets, 700 and 650b. They seem very good, they look the nuts, and they roll well..
I've got a bit of corrosion on the nipples of one (ooer!), which I'm keeping an eye on..

Yep thats what I have done with cheap DT350 hubs and DT Swiss 460db rims. Cost came out slightly cheaper and the DT Swiss hub is better quality IMO
Running them on mine which gets used for all sorts, gentle off road, 3 day tours (calling it a tour might be pushing it), commuting and road rides (did 55k today). Over all I like them and they're a definite upgrade on the secondhand Boardman cc wheels I was running before.
Yes you can get the exact same wheels a hubs without the marketing, probably saving some £s but I'm not that wheel savvy. The ability to pop into my mates bike shop and pick them up in person was an added bonus.
Just to add, it's not the gravel version I have, it's the 4season disc
I run the 4 seasons on my CX bike, Although the rear freewheel 'pings' sometimes (I see its a simple re-grease to fix) they have been faultless.
Sealed 6 tubeless tyres (Challange, Schwalbe and Specialized) with no issues.
The after sales service has been good (they sent me an slimline rotor adapter FOC, and a mate had a new front sent out the same day he broke it, FOC) You cant get that if you build them yourself.
You also get a big bag of spares too, including QR's, spokes, valves etc.
For £350 i'd say they are good value with no hassle.
They look pretty cool too.
