Ooh pretty! Any idea on price?
Lots. I seem to remember the frame being £1150-ish and £2800+ for full builds. A bit pricey for aluminium?
😯 it's pretty, but it ain't that pretty 😯
Nice.
Full builds coming in £2800-3200 depending on spec, Shimano or SRAM,..
Nice bike though, really nice.
No mention of weights in the spec that I've seen, but could see it being a decent drop bar 650b wide tyred holigan machine.
Bokeh Ti version looks pretty special too.
That rear mech outer a built in snare?
Really like the look of this but can't help think it's a "poor" mans OPEN UP.
It's almost as expensive as an Open Up . I have benn doing some build calculations.
Nice looking but too expensive for aluminium .
2 guys i ride with had an open and both sold it after a short while
both said it felt slow/sluggsih
It's almost as expensive as an Open Up
eh, the Open frame is 2900 euros on R2-Bike.de

i made a comment on Instagram about the Orange paint and Dom said he's been waiting to use that colour on this type of frame for a few years,
however, due to the Open being the same colour and the likely comparisons people are going to make, id have done it another colour, but then i don't own a bike company so what do i know
My neck cricked just looking at it 😳
UK pricing is £2200 for the frame .
Ultegra build £3400 .
Ultegra Di2 £4000 .
That's the Ti price, Ali is around £1150
^ is that the Titanium version? The article has "Mason will also offer framesets for £1,150 if you want to build your own", which corresponds to the prices of framesets in the other models. "Ultegra hydro bike will also cost £3,100, the [105] hydro comes in at £2,795."
Edit: beaten like a rented mule. Must type faster.
The prices i am quoting are for the Open UP
Ah; I saw the U.P. quoted as £2,230 - either the standard Orange or the Rapha version in black. Didn't think it was offered built up, so the build costs would otherwise only differ on the bottom bracket.
I'm not sure the comparison with UP is fair, and all seems to be based on the choice of colour. If we're selecting genre based on colour, my Day One should added into the mix!
Anyone know any more about the Ti version? Dates, weights etc? Then I look forward to the TripsterATR vs Bokeh thread 😉
I have an irrational desire to own a Mason, and neither of those pictures are helping. Are those Hope rotors I spy on the grey bike?
What's so special about the ali version -n where is it being made?
Just thinking about the FS mtb frames you get get for that money, where they probably require a lot more design input in order to work correctly ?
Why are "adventure bikes" always drop barred? Surely hybrid style would be better? Or does that not sell bikes? 😆 (actually is a serious question)
Monkeychild - there are those 'adventure' bikes, and we'll my guess is it's a different customer that would buy this than those mentioned above.
The above are generating an adventure bike purchaser from cyclists who won't buy the thorn, so for me those from the Road/ mtb'ers who find the bikes above really appealing, ie those who can see the logic to the design, and if honest think they area bit cool or suit their image as a rider. Kind of reminds me of the moment someone thought 'let's make a fiat punto 4x4, that will be shithot!!'
Frames are all made in Italy IIRC.
Would love one, but the price is pushing that of a custom frame build.
@smell_it I guess it is an imaage perception thing. Having just switched from a CX bike to a *shudder* MTB focussed hybrid, I personally think I am an idiot for getting a CX bike in the 1st place. The hybrid is far more suited to doing the job I require (I am an idiot that poo pooed hybrids). Each to their own like, I was just genuinely curious as to why they're not hybrid like with funky bars for multiple hand placement.
The Open UP is tidy but is way over-priced.
Tooo pricey. I love alu bikes but part if what's good about them is they are cheap!
Might be of interest to some...
Gravel bikes are not exactly my bag at the moment, but the head tube on that ti frame is just sublime.
In those pics, there doesn't seem to be a mudguard mount between the chainstays. How's that work?
No they aren't cheap but I don't think they are expensive either for a European designed, painted and made frame with branded tubing from a small company.
I'll let you know. I have a grey one due to land any day. I decided to treat myself as I received a small inheritance and felt it was probably the only time I'd ever splash this much cash on a frame.

will that day ever come, they've been saying just in the paint shop/nearly there/damn the italians and their 3 day holidays for a few weeks now, looking forward to seeing some in the wild
Oh.... 😥
Not another Singular Saga I hope.
If they are coming from central Italy, cut them some slack, they have had a rough few weeks over there.

I received a small inheritance last year and spent it on a Mason Definition. It puts a smile on my face every time I ride it - it's such a lovely bike.

Fair comment.....
Apparently the first batch on on their way from Italy.....hmmmm I think I was in the second so more waiting in store.
Gives me more time to stock up on shiny bits then!

ah yer, fair point, didn't think of that 😳
So, with a top rating in Jan's Cycling Weakly [/s] and a recent review on road.cc, my interest is rekindled. Anyone bought one? slowjo, has yours arrived?
Contemplating taking a day trip to Hove to see one next week and lift my pre-Christmas torpor.
I think Slojo has his and is living up to his name putting it together! 😆
I'm in the process of ordering a rolling chassis with probable delivery end Jan/ early Feb. I also have an Etap HydroR groupset ordered for delivery at about the same time. 😀
has it arrived yet?
Slowjo posted about his new Bokeh here: http://1-eleven.cc/blog/mason-bokeh
Lovely. Like the Bokeh but have always craved a definition. They are all lovely bikes and very excited about the development of Mason. They'll definitely be one for me in the near future.
If anyone is reading this thread and is pondering swapping a resolution or definition for a Bokeh....I'm keeping my eye out for a 52cm. All the second hand ones around have been 56cm or more!! If not the only consolation would be by the time I can afford a new definition, Dom would have gone flat mount on the rear. I have some flat mount shimano ready and waiting.
The Ti one will be a treat eh? Wowza!
Phew, I see that Slowjo is running 650b Thunder Burts. My intention is to use those for more mostly non-road and Compass Loup Loup Pass for mostly road.
My rolling chassis is due in about a month in early March, but of course my etap groupset is now suggested for delivery in mid May 🙁
Anyone ridden a Mason Definition vs a Genesis Datum?
I've ordered up the rolling chassis; Slowjo's comments have confirmed the wisdom of my action.
The bent seatstays/chainstays make it look like it's got a fat arse. Looks ok otherwise, but not nice enough for the price. Apart from that, it's ideal. Is it ok to buy one if you're under 35 I wonder?
Oh noes, 2nd time a bokeh has come up in the space of a week. n+2 urge is getting strong. May need to book a long weekend and see about a test ride

Here's some pics of my Mason bokeh, got to say I absolutely love it !
