Whilst looking at a few bikes I’ve noticed these becoming quite prevalent and having read a few reviews am getting quite excited about the potential of owning some Bombers again 😀 The Z2 gets good reviews.
The RS is rumoured to be a budget Revelation but no reviews as yet.
Anyone got some real world experience of either?
Haven't used either but confidently expect the Z2 to be waaaaaay better than the RS.
The 35 appears to have an old fashioned MoCo damping, the new Marz damper is supposed to be really good.
Would like to try one myself actually.
I'thinking that way. The bike is comes with is SRAM SX though (see my sx thread) Yet the cost differential of the next bike up with the RS would pay for a GX mech and XT cassette.
I’d definitely go for the Z2 and poorer components, cassette and mech you can replace down the line. Cassette is consumable anyway.
This is quite useful https://m.pinkbike.com/news/ridden-and-rated-four-affordable-trail-bike-forks.html
Given the 35 are below revs I think there’s quite a difference between them and the Z2.
I’d expect due to the volume of 35s being specced OEM for 2020 that aftermarket damper upgrades will be available shortly.
Z2 without a shadow of a doubt. As a concept the z2 seems a lot closer to the revelation charger, take an expensive damper and simplify the expensive 20% to knock 80% off the price. How that translates to performance remains to be seen but the reviews seem favourable.
Ive got a scandal on pre order with the 35's, no one seems to know what the difference between revs and 35's is but there must be something. I'll give them a thrash and see how they are, being a hardtail Im less fussed, bike speeds are lower, line choices smoother and they dont have to be ballanced with a shock tune.
Waiting on the new Vitus Mythique as well. Much as Id love something with really long geometry like a Bird AM9 or cotic rocket the Mythique with Z2's ticks a lot of boxes.
Isn’t the 35 heavier than the revelation?
Edit - think it’s a replacement for the most basic revelation of last year. Might have a more basic version of moco than the revelation motion control rc

There was only one revelation aftermarket, the charger revelation was oem only I think?
The service manual is already on the RS site:
32mm bottomless tokens, so it must be using a thicker walled stanchions, which means existing dampers probably wont fit (booo).
Spring uses all travel spacers, so travel adjustment is possible without a new air shaft. Which means its not quite the same debonair system as the other forks.
Spec doesnt mention sag gradients which implies they all use the same stanchions regardless of the travel.
Damper is the same MoCo as always, but cant tell much other than that as the spare parts catalogue hasn't been updated yet to see if its common with any other fork.
So I e-mailed RS.
Bit peeved as several companies are saying/implying its basicly a revelation chassis with debonair etc. Different chassis, different spring, different damper. Cant be upgraded.
Sauce:
The Rockshox 35 is a completely different fork to the Revelation.
The 35 being a cheaper fork uses a heavier chassis, the air assembly is also a non-Debonair solo air set up so it cannot be adjusted with the use of tokens like a Revelation. Currently the Revelation is more of a future proof fork as the air assembly and damper can be upgraded to essentially make the Revelation in to a Pike. The damper assembly on the Revelation is also a bigger circumference which allows for better oil flow making the small bump compliance much better.
Nicely done TINAS thanks. 'zocchi it is then 🙂 The extra weight of the SX/NX cassette will act a s good training aid.
That’s odd - their website says it’s a Debonair air assembly?

I had a dig in the manual, it might have a larger than old-skool air spring, but its not the same one thats in the rev/yari/pike. It has all travel spacers like the oooooooold solo air did so if you want to reduce travel you add spacers which stop it extending.
Cheers for info - does appear to take tokens for air volume tuning though. I reckon it would make a decent fork with an aftermarket damper upgrade which is bound to be available sometime soon.
