Marzocchi Oil heights- charts just show volume mostly- but weren't their older forks (Z1s etc) all about the same height/level?
Say 50mm- was that mostly constant throughout the range ( for the same rider etc)?
Basically do you just cover the cartridge, and then ensure you dont have too much oil in to get full travel?
I have 55 RC3 ti evos . Would like to get the 350 ti evos
Sure they always listed volume.
yes I know all the volumes, I want to know the theory, the way we used to do it, I dont recall
It was always 50mm from the top or suchlike
You know what a pain it is to clean all the old oil out of the cartridge, then put new oil in.
If you lost a little oil and need to top it up, its simpler to know the height.
The question is, did marzocchi coil forks all have the same oil height?
They have always listed volume, but many years ago when I contacted them they confirmed you can adjust the spring curve by small changes in volume (2001 z1's).
I think the baseline was 65mm from the top with the fork fully compressed. Higher oil level is like adding volume spacers, lower like, um, removing them. Too much lower is like riding a pogo stick 😉
Ah that link suggests 45mm. I wonder if I still have that email!
edit - doesn't look like my emails go back past 2004, which is a bit annoying.
The volumes are a bit misleading, because it's really hard to get all of the oil out of the damper, it takes aaages. I had way too much in my damper for ages cos I didn't realise this.
Having cleared it all out and added more, it looks like the oil is only just above the top of the piston at full compression.
Volume & adjust as necessary, on some the oil acted as the travel limit as there are no bottom out bumpers!
