That was an interesting read thanks; hope he does get to get back on a bike, somewhow.
Oh God, very moving stuff, bit dusty in here suddenly.
Really makes me want to go for a ride.
Best of luck Martyn.
🙂
Thanks StuF
lets hope the recent news from Poland provides hope for his future.
Blimey. That as a surprisingly emotional read. As ever with these things it makes you realise how lucky you are and how many opportunities you have, that you waste.
Massive urge to go out on the bike now, even if it's just round the block....
Best wishes to Martyn for his continuing journey and I really hope he can one day get back on a bike.
Nice article, he's done more in the last year than I've done in a lifetime!
Hopefully in time to come he'll be wowing us again with whatever he decides to do.
Legend.
Even if he does remain permanently in a wheelchair he's clearly going to be capable of doing some amazing things with it.
Good luck Martyn!
what made him the man he is and always will be regardless really shines through in that.
the whole way through reading it over breakfast this morning i was thinking - that could be any one of us any day in our lifes.
i honestly dont know how i would take it - i hope i would see the opportunity martyn has but ultimately you dont know.
Cracking read that, really good. He was a hero in my teenage years and is fast becoming one again with he deeds after his accident.
Really enjoyed that. Thanks.
I can still look at a downhill run or cross country course and imagine how it feels to ride it. Enjoy seeing someone else take that ride on. I always used to do that anyway, that hasn’t changed.
Had more than a little in common with Beethoven, I thought.
Amazingly inspiring, positive person. I seriously doubt I would have an ounce of his get up and go and positiveness if I found myself in his situation. Huge respect.
Really enjoyed (if that's the right word) reading that, thanks.
What an amazing read, very thought provoking, honest and touching.
The human spirit is truly awesome.
Good luck Martin and well done, you're a Super Star!

Ditto for me, but I think I have even more respect and admiration for him now than ever before.
what made him the man he is and always will be regardless
He's an incredibly talented guy, mentally and physically, and has achieved so much with hard work, effort and dedication, and a fully working body, only one of those elements has changed.
That dedication and outlook makes me think that he will ultimately turn out to be one of those athletes that really defines the description 'differently able' rather than 'disabled'
Good luck Martyn!
Motorbike- wow. Just wow.
There was also an amazing interview with him post-accident in Privateer. Truly inspirational in how he is dealing with it, finding the good from such a bad situation shows an amazing inner strength. Wish him well for the future.
Great and frank article. Puts everything in perspective.
Martyn has been, and will continue to be, an inspiration.
Amazing strength.
I guarantee if I ever get paralysed in an accident, I'll be a whiney cockbag about it and inspire nobody. It's the motorbike that gets me, I remember how scared I was getting back on mine after I broke my hip and how much I had to relearn so with no lower body movement or awareness at all is something else.
Very inspiring indeed!
Really hope he gets to where he would like to be. Incredible courage.
He's dealing with it shitloads better than I would.
He's a truly lovely bloke; I've spoken to him a few times at Fort Bill a few times over the years.
He's dealing with it shitloads better than I would.
- Ditto.
That last paragraph will be etched in my memory the next time I think "can't be bothered riding my bike today"
Great read, thanks for the link.
Bravo Mr Ashton.
ta for the link OP.
