I love the size of my Marin 4 Corners but have been thinking ahead if I ever want to upgrade. It’s nice but a bit heavy and has a couple of features I would like to change (only has 1.125 headset, QR only etc).

Looking at Marino frames as an option as I do want something that can’t really be bought in most standard frames - I have really short arms and legs so struggle with most frames as they are too low on the front and too long).

What’s the quality/weight like? I know it’s not going to be like a boutique custom frame but I’m ok with that.
Is what you ask for actually given? I’m thinking tyre clearance especially, I like 42/45mm tyres with full mudguards.

All experiences welcome! Pics would be nice too.

I love my Marino, the geometry is exactly as I asked for and it's well made (not perfect cosmetically but you can only notice very close up) and great value for money. Mine isn't very light but it's an XL(equivalent) hardcore hardtail made from steel so not unexpected... If you were getting a gravel frame it could possibly be made from thinner gauge tubing, less bracing and smaller.

In terms of tyre clearance, I didn't spec that specifically, I gave the wheel diameter (including tyre) as part of the build as well as axle to crown height and chainstay length which partially dictate clearance.

It might be easiest to find an off the shelf frame that you like and amend the geometry slightly from there based on your wishes.

I would just copy my current frame but make the changes I wanted.

There's a busy Marino group on Facestalk if you're on that. Worth asking there, but you'll probably only get positive feedback - not sure you'd get anyone slating them on the group if you want a more rounded picture.

My Marino frame seems solidly built and I like the look of it. I told them it was for general trail use - it is rather heavy.

I’d ask them whether they’d use thinner gauge tubing for a gravel bike and where they think the weight might end up. You don’t want a 3.1kg (with rear axle and seat clamp) gravel frame I suspect......

If you have a bit of budget you might get something lighter and still custom from Waltly Titanium (if you can get them to reply - there’s another thread somewhere with Amy’s email address at Waltly).

Definitely look ahead to what you're going to want.

I placed my deposit 13 months ago and it was only ready last week sonuvstill gave to wait a month or two before it actually arrives.
