You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Evening,
So I posted another thread earlier today and i've ended up on the Marino website. I'm looking to place an order fairly soon but wanted to make sure i'm making the right decisions re geometry. I'm basing the frame off of a Stanton Switch9er, a frame i've ridden before and liked (you might say just buy another, but I like the idea of making some subtle changes). I always felt like the seat tube could be steeper on the switch, and hopefully I can address that on a Marino. I understand in theory the knock on effect a change in geometry can have i.e when you alter one angle, it affects another aspect of the bike.
But what else would be affected if i steepened the seat tube to maybe 75 or 75.5? A reduction in reach. anything else? What would a change of 1 degree amoutn to in a reduction in reach, or how can I work this out (not done maths since 2001).
Why would it reduce reach?
It won't reduce reach, that's from BB, it will reduce effective top tube length. Think of it as seated reach if you have to.
I presumed that a steeper seat tube would decrease distance between saddle and bars?
But i've just googled it and see that reach is measured from the center of the bb....
Reach (so length when you’re stood up) won’t change - what will change is the distance from the saddle to the handlebars - so it’ll feel shorter when you’re sat down.
You’ll end up more directly over the bb which should be more efficient for peddling - but it depends if this is going to cramp you when you’re sat down peddling.
Have you been in touch with Luke at MarinoUK?
He might be able to help you.
Don't take this the wrong way but if you don't know what reach is on a frame you'd maybe be best to let them help you.
Drop him an email, he's normaly pretty quick replying.
You may want to consider a Hello Dave: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FTOOHD/on-one-hello-dave-frame
Loving mine. Test road a Switch9er and prefer the Dave.
Also sign up for the free online version of bike cad and have a play. It’s a bit slow but the paid for version that you download software for (which presumably works better) is £500 so a no go.
I did start a then read that’s a bit longer about Marino and angles etc - might be worth a browse through that.
Anyone had a frame off Marino? I'm after a winter hardtail frame in XL running 650b wheels. What's the sort of lead times are you looking at for something custom?
