I'd like to build a jack-of-all-trades MTB. I'd like to use it as commuter, tourer, and training bike. I've another bike for racing and a roadie, too. But need sg. I could use to train on the trail, go to the shop, etc... and have too many bikes in my flat.

I'd like 3x7/8 drivetrain, because low-maintance is important.

I have this Marin Team Issue, with the red Cannondale forks.

I think I should change the alu forks to steel. (I've discussed about it in another thread.)

Want to upgrade to V-brakes and levers, too. (Avid Single Digit, Arvh Rival, XTR, or XT) And maybe a pair of XT or Sram Attack shifter...

What do You think? What should I pay attention? What are Your suggestions?

Many thanks!

My now commuter is my old mountain bike which was pretty much everything off a marin team issue, (the shop split a team issue as one guy wanted the frame and I got a bike made up of the rest) My own bike was the first I had seen with XTR.
