Looking at a clearance 2017 Marin Nail Trail 20”, 27.5, 120mm fork, Hardtail.

Just trying to get a comparison with my trusty Rumblefish from a fit perspective. I’ve had the Rumble for over 5 years - its a real general purpose, "jack of all trades" bike for my skill level. I like the proportions and general fit and feel of the bike.

Rumblefish 21": Stack 630mm, Reach 452mm, Wbase 1179mm, Seat Tube Angle 73.6, Head Angle 69.8, Chainstay 452mm, Seat tube 529mm, Top Tube 626mm

Nail Trail 20": Stack 635mm, Reach 461mm, Wbase 1180mm, Seat Tube Angle 68, Head Angle 74, Chainstay 435mm, Seat tube 520mm, Top Tube 617mm

Looking at the stats it seems it would be a good fit and maybe a bit more playful than the Rumble. I’m 6’3” and 35" inseam.

I’m looking at this bike to keep down in France. We have miles and miles of undulating countryside, (no major hills as such but it ain’t flat) endless tight singletrack in the woods and farm tracks a plenty.

Anything glaringly obvious to the collective in the geo that I’m missing? It would be a mail order so can't try before I buy.

It's pretty conservative, I thought it was the L size untill I saw that you're 6ft 3, it's pretty short reach and not a huge wheelbase. Should feel pretty similar to your current bike but a bit more flickable due to the shorter chain stays.

I'm the same height as you and was thinking that a 470mm reach and 1200mm wheelbase on an XL was a bit on the short side 😆 but if you're mostly riding undulating single-track then it would probably be ideal.

Thats kinda what I'm after - the trails in the woods are pretty tight and sometimes the Rumble seems a tad cumbersome.

I love mine. Still surprised how fast it is compared to steep angled old HT. Handles differently, but better....
Light wheels are unnoticed in the reviews, but they manage a wideish rim with being light.
The OEM tyres are not good, I've replaced and much happier. The bottom bracket was cheese and seized - Rutland cycles didn't even respond to emails about it for a warranty, so chucked in a cheap shimano, but needed the original plastic 'top hat' as the Marin cranks were too tight in the shimano BB.
I've just changed the dropper post lever as the OEM one is wobbly.
I had three tokens in forks, and three more in the bag with it, the forks better with one less token in.
I'm 6' and the Large is spot on, I would consider an XL...

Cheers Matt, very useful info.

Is yours stickered as a L or 19"?

The one on sale is a 20" which I reckon is an XL according to https://www.marinbikes.com/gb/bike-archive/bikes/2017-nail-trail-7.

I'll check with the shop on Monday.

I must stop idly reading the How about a £1k hardtail thread  .... amazing how you can justify n+1.

Anyway ... unlikely to be doing any more work this afternoon ....

I have to spend five days a month in rural France for family stuff so the Nail Trail is staying down there to be used as my new exploring steed.
