Went there today, it’s 1 Jnc down the M4 if you’re not familiar.
They’ve recently had ‘Back on Track‘ in today do a bit of surfacing work etc, it’s by no means their usual mirror smooth berms and tables stuff.
There’s a green that just snakes around the grounds, a blue that’s closed today and a red and black.
We rode the red and both black runs and it only came to 10km including the pedal over from the car park.
They used to hold XC races there and I think the trails are part of that, it’s very XC like, lots of short steep climbs and tight switch backs, the descents are loose, steeper than TC stuff but not DH steep or anything like that. The views are really good and we spotted a herd of deer. The black trails are just descents really and better incorporated into the red. There’s two, one is mostly forgettable, lasts about 5 mins and you might wonder if it’s worth riding let alone ‘black’ which can lull you into a false sense of security as the other black is pretty tasty with off-camber, loose, tight steep switch backs and a fast section that dumps you into a tyre wide off camber bit to brake on.
It didn’t really suit the LLS 160mm bikes we had, over biked going up and down and left wondering if 64 degree HAs are wise on such tight switchbacks, but I’d imagine XC racers/riders would love it.
That's Martyn Ashton's local I think.
Plenty of post on FB of him there on his Bow Head trike.
I used to race at margam years ago and it was fantastic but with Afan just minutes away from it I don't go back much.
I did not know there was a trail centre there!

From where? Not from me, and I can ride there. 😂

It’s opened recently I think, and is mainly aimed at family type groups, from what I understand.
I used to ride for Schmoos, and help him organise races, so I spent most of the 90s in Margam. (It feels that way, anyway!) Lovely place to ride but there’s not much tech stuff there. I know - we searched for it! 😁
Went there a few weeks ago and it has potential to develop. The black rooty one was good, the rest I found a bit bland.
Actually bumped into Martyn Ashton on his trike that day, he was ragging it round the fireroad sliding the corners.

Yep, raced the NPS there in 2000s. Was quite a hilly course IIRC.
